Hypertrophy Training Post Velocity Diet

Hey All —

I just wanted to post this and see who can help. I am starting week 4 of the Velocity diet, and then have the transition weeks. After slimming down and leaning out (My weight is around 158-165’ish, and my body fat is already under 7% and I still have another week to go), I’m planning on a 6 week cycle of putting on lean body mass. So here’s my question …

Who has done Dan John’s Mass Made Simple program, and what were your experiences…? Also, since coming off the V-Diet, I’m already doing 4 out of the 6 weekly tweaks he recommends … Were you already doing some of the “Tweaks” he recommended, and if so, did you move up a tweak a week earlier …?

Thanks for sharing and the input!

On Mass Made Simple…

Firstly, great choice!

Secondly, it works!! It?s nothing like any hypertrophy program I?ve done in the past but it has redefined the way I will train to gain in future. Although I didn?t really monitor my weight or measurements I definitely gained a good bit of mass all over and while dropping body fat, added 7.5kg to my bench press 1RM (which had been pretty much stuck for the previous year) and the Batwings have noticeably improved my posture.

Thirdly, it is hard!!! A lot, lot harder than it looks on paper. Be conservative with your starting weights for the complexes, use the high rep squat weights Dan suggest for your bodyweight even if they look too light and, most importantly, eat loads! I made the mistake of not eating enough, it caught up with me towards the end which I think contributed to me getting ill with a virus and having to cut the program short.

haha…Im confused

dude on V-diet asking a hypertrophy question on the P’lifting forum

Yeah, Marlboro, I wasn’t really sure which forum to post on. I didn’t want some skinny kid who can’t bench his weight on the Velocity forum trying to tell what I should or shouldn’t do for putting back on lean body mass when I’m done. Hence why I asked on the Powerlifting forum …

So Marlboro … any thoughts on my original post …?

Ive never done the program , nor the diet , so I guess I shouldnt have commented . my bad .

Oh, I didn’t think you were poking fun at all, and I certainly didn’t take it that way! I just wanted powerlifters’ opinion …

A lot of powerlifters incorporate hypertrophy in their programs but they’re definitely not based around it. The bodybuilding forum has some pretty strong people in it and you’ll most likely get more comments. Give them a try.
