OK, let me tell you about these Italian girls. Waaaay too much trouble, and here’s why:
Italian youths (13-mid twenties) do not have the same sort of teenage angst/hatred/mean spirit that so many American youths do. Whatever the cause, Italian women, especially, are very open. If you initiate a conversation with them, they will never ignore you like an american girl might, and if there’s a pause in the conversation, they immediately ask a question, or introduce a new line of conversation to keep things going. Whew, that was a run-on. Anyway, this is misleading to American guys (myself included), because you’re constantly thinking “hey, this girl really likes me!” They think nothing of giving out their phone numbers, and setting up a ‘date’ is never a problem. It is, therefore, incredibly difficult to ascertain if there’s any romantic interest on her part at all… and from my (and other’s) experience, the answer is usually ‘no.’ This is frustrating.
For those of you that think I should find an older woman, I tend to agree, but this is problematic in a small town like Siena. There’s almost no night-life here, and as a consequence, most young people leave after they graduate from college. So I’m pretty much stuck with the 17-22 crowd from the get go.

While I agree that it’s absolutely wrong to profess love or promise a committment solely to get into a girl’s pants, I don’t see what’s otherwise wrong with two adults engaging in some casual sex.

If we’re going to give our opinions about a girl we know absolutely nothing about personally, at least we should be shallow and base it on her looks. =-) I imagine if she looks more like a St. Paulie Girl than the Swiss Miss or Heidi you’ll have more support…

DAN C: I’ve met some Swedes and some Russians. Both of the Swedes were taken, and only one of them was a blonde. The brunette, however, looked like she was in her early twenties (she’s 30) and was a schoolteacher. Again, she had a boyfriend, so yet another fantasy smashed to bits ;-).
There’s one Russian at the school, and she’s not really my type. I met quite a few Russians at University, and I don’t think I’ve met a single one I was actually attracted to. Weird, eh?
Anywho, no dice on this situation, apparently. She’s only got one more week at the school, which is insufficient time for me to cast my clumsy spells. But hey, thanks for the advice guys… I’m sure I’ll meet more impressionable young ladies in the future…

From a female point of view, be upfront as to your lack of intentions. If she accepts, be safe and have fun. Just a friendly note of caution, make sure of her age, we’re not exactly know for telling the truth when it comes to this subject.
If I were in your situation, I would think to do it, but right now, i am 17 and thinking about any of my friends doing anything with a 23 year old kind of disgusts me. I know some 15 year old girls that have fucked 19,20 year olds and it just makes me think that they have problems. However, let me stress that if I was not 17, I would probobly have different feelings. It is just that I can more clearly see the issue… or something like that.
I would think thgouh, that it would be ok in italy. I dont know why, but I just thgouht it would be acceptable. Ask around over there and see if it is shunned or something. I dont know, but if you were in America, i would say no.

As far as being an adult, I think that if she’s capable of living alone in a foreign country for over month, she’s passed at least some rudimentary test. But, like I said, no dice with this one anyway. Luckily, there are more Swiss.
I am really interested to know how you’d like ‘intentions’ to be spelled out in any way that would mean that I would still get sex. Wait, that came out wrong… let me rephrase. When women come up with this ‘be clear on your intentions’ stuff, it is my feeling that this is nothing but a ploy to make sure that no male gets casual sex. There is no way, in my humble opinion, for that sort of conversation to occur with a normal girl in which she will want to have sex with you afterwards. That’s not to say that she was ‘expecting’ anything from you beyond the act itself… but the fact that you bring it up is creepy in and of itself. Am I making any sense, here?
