How Would Bob Sapp Do?

How big was Gracie then? When i saw him on UFC the other day he looked frail… skinnyfat (looked it)

Royce was stepping into the ring at 170lbs back then. I dont know about now, but most likely the same.

BTW: thats what made his victories rocked the martial arts world back then. Because he is frail looking and he was able to beat much larger stronger opponents.

This is probably the reason why bjj became so popular afterwards. It’s on of the rare martial arts that actually delivers in terms of giving the small guy a good chance to win.

I wish he would act that way on Japanese TV, the Japanese Media seems to want him to play the “Crazy Black Man”. I wish he wouldn’t.

I, personally, wish he acted more sensible sometimes, instead of the “dumbass” role (not calling Mr Sapp a dumbass, just the way he acts sometimes on camera). He needs to work on his stamina BAD and stop throwing haymakers. Someone should take him into the ring and show him how effective his jab could be, if he used one. I just don’t want him to go down as another Butterbean. And, back on the subject, I don’t think he would fair well at strongman, because he doesn’t have a “psycho” drive needed to do well, IMHO.

this would be a better fight to watch.

Comparing Tyson to Sapp in their “primes” is like comparing Peyton Manning to Ryan Leaf.

In other words, Tyson was a much better fighter and probably still is.

Kimo terrible??? So what does that make Gracie? Kimo beat the shit out of him in his prime and only lost the match because of his pony tail! Gracie later came out for his next match but could not walk to the ring without help let alone fight. Sapp might not look good doing it but he fight!
Please, please, please rewatch the Kimo Gracie fight. I don’t think Kimo landed a solid or effective blow the whole fight. Kimo has been and always was a mediocre fighter at best and overrated.

another gem.

I do, however, wonder how Sapp would fare in the UFC against the likes of Tim Sylvia. That would be an interesting fight, IMO.

I want to see the guy who doesn’t cry if his orbital bone is cracked. Crying is what your body does with that type of injury. That’s like making a big deal out of someone getting stabbed and then having the nerve to actually bleed.

They are two different things. How the hell can you compare a knife attack and 2 conditioned fighters fighting? He’s not alone in having suffered these injuries (can think of several rugby league players), but his reaction was a first for sure…

And no, i dont think i could have done any better…

You’ve seen people get their orbital bone cracked and then what happened? Did they simply brush it off and keep playing? Have you heard of an “orbital blowout”? These aren’t minor injuries. Someone can go blind from an injury like that and the natural response to an eye injury that severe is to cry. It is a NATURAL RESPONSE. That means your body can’t help it. It also means that if you actually saw someone who fractured that bone who didn’t, I would love to see the footage.
My brother broke his orbital bone with an elbow to the face going for a rebound. He finished the game before he went to the hospital. He said it hurt, but he didn’t cry.

He’d probably do pretty well at strongman. Look what he does to an apple. A VERY impressive grip feat that few can duplicate…

Nice link. Sefo is my boy. He hits like a fucking truck. That’s one of the dirtiest all out brawls ever. Sefo just let Sapp go to town in the first until he gassed out and then beat him into submission.

My brother had his whole head removed and finished an entire game of football. He said they reattached it after the game and he’s fine now.

You know it’s easy to sit back and bag on the guy, but in all probability none of us could do what he has done as a relative newcomer to the sport. Most’ve the guys he has to fight have had 10 plus years of training in their respective disciplines and cross-training while it is obvious that he had barely any when he entered the ring.

Taking leg shots from opponents like Cro-cop or Hoost would be a frickin nightmare for someone untrained in blocking them…could you imagine being that heavy and taking a kick to your knee/thigh without the knowledge of how to block? I’d probably be shitting my pants. He brings a certain level of excitement that people will pay to see, whether it is just a character he plays, at least he is willing to engage his opponents and take a beating, and his two losses in MMA are to Nog and Fujita, no slouches.

Crocop also broke Sak’s orbital bone and to my knowledge he didn’t cry. What does this mean? Nothing, as I don’t know the extent of the breakage in either individual. To Sapp’s credit he also had a vicious liver kick by Crocop seconds before(the punch) which would have made me cry, or killed me.

The severity is the point…since everyone wants to claim orbital fractures are so minor that you should be able to finish whatever you are doing after getting one.

Who said I was disagreeing with you? I was eluding to the fact that it might have been the liver kick that caused him the most pain.

I didn’t write that you disagreed with me. What delusion caused you to write that I did?

Maybe it was the 6 hits of LSD I did this morning? Anyways, it felt inferred.

My brother had his whole body removed and finished an entire game of soccer.
After his head went in for the winning goal they reattached his body.

He didn’t cry but his body pissed its pants.

Keep in mind Bob Sapp trains very, very little compared to prof’l fighters and didn’t have years of training behind him when he first started.

He has a brutal schedule in Japan, doing all types of TV shows, commercials, some movies, and also has to dedicate time to training and ‘competing’ as a pro wrestler.

I’d like to see him lose 50-60 lbs though, he seems to carry a huge amount of intra-abdominal fat. I hate to think about what the traveling, training, fighting, stress, 360 lb body and pharmaceuticals are doing to his heart…

Strongman wise, I doubt he’d be good enough to do it competitively.

Mark Henry on the other hand, has already won some strongman competitions and is the only man in the last 100+ yrs to clean and press the Inch db.
