The standard sleeping recommendations for regular people don’t apply to big dudes.
They say to only sleep on one pillow to maintain proper spinal alignment, all that good stuff.
Anyways, here’s what I do.
Keep two pillows under my head to compensate for my ass when I’m on my back or the width of my shoulders when I’m on my side (which is usually how I sleep) and still maintain spinal alignment. If I don’t do this it feels like my neck hyperextends posteriorly and I wake up sore.
If I’ve gone to bed with a sore shoulder (happens a fair amount) I tuck a pillow under the affected shoulder and fall asleep that way.
And I use a pillow to basically hug while I’m on my side. Keeps the arms from getting pinned between my body and the mattress.
I house-sat for a buddy a while back and he had one of those memory foam mattresses. Didn’t offer much back support but I noticed less shoulder and neck stiffness in the mornings. I think that’s the bed I’m going to get next.
four pillows and i have to sleep on my back or stomach…funny thing is i’m 220lbs soaking wet.
apparently i snore and have mild sleep apnea too, these are new benefits of added weight. being 145-150 and thin most of my life i never knew i had a delicate little airway, apparently i do. i woke up the other morning and rolled over for some a.m. loving w/ my lady…her feet were in my face, she flipped ends because my Godzilla snore was bugging her.
69 ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZiiiinnnggggggggg, she fell into my trap, the snore was just a ploy for some good lovin’.
I know this isnt the Supps forum, but Z-12. I bought some just as a throw in basically, and that stuff knocks me out. I wake up once each night in just enough time to sprint to the john, and then I crash again immediately afterward. I dont use it every night, but it works wonders, especially on nights I work out kind of late because of work.

For real, I have 7 or 8…lol
Damn! I only have one body pillow on my bed. It’s nice, though, because when I want to change positions or find a new position in the bed, there’s still always a pillow draped across!

I only get three and one small “decorative pillow”…'til my girlfriend leaves for work. Then I have six and sleep MUCH better.
It’s hard to sleep in a bed with someone else when you’ve got these issues. I try to explain it to her, “Ok, we’re splitting the bed 50/50, but I weigh over double what you do and am a foot taller- thus, my 50% of the bed is MUCH smaller. I should be entitled to 3/4 of the bed.”
No dice.
Learn to sleep on your back (requires the proper kind of pillow(s), too imo)
Get the right mattress (there are adjustable ones, thank god…)
NEVER sleep on the shoulder, especially if you are a rather large person already… Nerve damage down the road and other issues. That one is not uncommon (see Ronnie for example)
Sleeping on the stomach can also work… As well as semi-turned positions (but those are rather pillow-intensive for me)
Never tried a side-sleeper pillow myself… Might want to look into that…
Main thing is to get out of your comfort zone if you run into such issues and make a change rather than just staying with the same shitty mattress/sleeping on the side. It’s not actually all that difficult to find solutions…
There were some threads about this before, btw, you could try looking for them, maybe we discussed this in more detail there… I don’t remember.

Where the hell do you guys put all these extra pillows? I toss and turn too much to sleep with pillows anywhere but under my head.
Well, I don’t move at all while asleep, I just wake right up if I’m not comfortable (arms losing circulation or whatever).

The bigger I get, it seems the more difficult it becomes to sleep at night. I use to be able to sleep on my sides or in any position really and be fine. However, that was 70 lbs ago. Now I can’t sleep on my side or my shoulder starts to go numb. I usually end up falling asleep that way somehow and then waking up and rolling over to the other side. I have to have a pillow in between my arms as well now when sleeping on my sides.
The only position where I don’t seem to have any issues sleeping- is flat on my back, arms at my sides. I can only take so much of that though…
Anybody else have these issues or have ideas of how to cope with this?
Blow a load before you lay down. sleep like a gawdamn baby. problem solved.

That’s a little concerning, considering I DO have shoulder issues right now. I’m actually seeing an orthopedic doctor on Monday about it- and probably going to end up doing some type of physical therapy.
