I guess its probably because of light lordosis with large abdominal muscles. Muscle imbalances are common in fighters as they are interested in power…not appearence.
OMC
Its because he is either sticking his stomach out some in the picture or because he has some visceral (under the muscle, around the organs) bodyfat and little subcutaneous (between the skin and muscle).
That’s how you look when you do 800 crunches everyday, as well as genetics.
He also drinks heavily 2-4 nights a week.
-dizzle
He was on an episode of Entourage a couple of weeks ago, and it was even more apparent.
Not that he gives a shit what his abs look like, but it is an interesting observation.

I kinda figured (nothing backing this up) that it was because of alot of core strength, and stronger than average abdominal muscles. I figure the abs are like your other muscles and can be bulked up.
Now that you’re all saying other stuff I may look into it, but I had figured it was a good thing and have been trying to bulk mine up. Mine has always stuck out, though until recently I never had visible definition, now I can stick it out and still see seperation.
He probably doesn’t do vacuums. You also see this in some top level BBers

The kind you see in top level BBers can also be attributed to GH usage in some cases.
But when you eat shitloads of food everyday it just happens, I’ve noticed my abs get it to an extent if I just relax completely.
i noticed on UFC one guy, obviously forgot his name, only seen him fight this once, but he had a flabby 6 pack which was new to me. He might have just been old, but it seemed odd how his 6 pack folded, it was like a 6 pack of rolls

Some pics of Jay Cutler’s abs are disgusting and obviously oddly distended…from GH probably.
I’ve got some friends with abs like this, I always assumed it was genetic

My guess would be Evan Tanner

or possibly even Matt Lindland

As far as Chuck goes, I believe that the visceral vs. subcatenous fat comparison would explain it best. He works out hard enough to have visible abdominals, but also parties hard enough to have built up some (visceral) fat.
Probably a combination of genetics, and imbalance in training towards making his physique better.
I think it’s pretty obvious in the picture that his shoulders chest and entire upper body is lacking when compared to his core.
Enlarged omentum (visceral fatty sheath), cause by sat fat and high GI carbs.
his core is probably what gives him his knock-out punch. I wouldn’t mind having bulging abs.
but, i think one of those bald guys might have been the guy, but this guy seemed to be even more defined.

This is getting ridiculous. Some people are just made this way. There are natural bodybuilders and just naturally lean people with abdomens that protrude to some degree and it is not because of fat or because they ate doughnuts. Just because some people don’t look the same doesn’t mean there is something wrong with them.
Being underdeveloped through the arms and chest and hyperdeveloped through the abdomen would make it more pronounced.
I think its because he might
-Have a tight, flexed lower back
-Have glutes that aren’t uber-tight
-Just ate a meal and has a full stomach (most likely)
-Drinks a good amount of water throughout the day
-Isn’t holding his breath in and flexing like a BBer or a model.
Seriously. There’s no such thing as huge abs. If you want to know how people can have abs that extend beyond their pecs then do this…
-get lean enough to see your abs
-eat a KFC bucket family meal with sides or an equivalent amount of food volume wise
-walk in front of a mirror
-flex nothing and turn to the side
-if your six-pack gut doesn’t stick out past your unflexed pecs, then your pecs are pretty damn big.

Why is this ridiculous? I understand what you are saying, and I agree some are made a little differently, but my opinion is this is not just the case with Chuck. It looks like a classic case of poor diet and belly distention. I don’t think he has a case of “hyperdevelopment”. I googled some other photos and it just looks like the guy enjoys indulging in a some good ol’ fashion food. Don’t get me wrong, I think the guy still looks awesome, and who gives a shit really, I doubt he nor the guys who are getting their heads rattled by his fists do. Just my opinion, ridiculous or not.

Why would his body use subq fat and not the omentum? I could be wrong, but I would think that it has a lot more to do with the fact that he eats a lot and doesn’t pose for pictures.
