How Often Do You Puke from Workouts

the more you puke the more your body gets used to it. Its best to fight it back you build up your stomach. Some people are more susceptible to vomiting, its just not healthy in general though and should be avoided.

I can puke on command. I puke when I watch those plastic surgery shows. I get queasy when I see a replay of someone breaking his leg.

And I puke when I do heavy squats. No biggie.

Well its certainly not a good or normal thing. Puking with that much regularity is not a healthy thing for your esophagus or teeth. I was merely offering some input for your problem. Since it doesn’t seem to bother you, more power to you.

seems like he has been doing it for so long really no need to question it. Its just when giving advice to other people I would recommend not to puke and to avoid it.

Are you guys bulimic? STOP PUKING?

I’ve never puked, gotten close due to eating too much too soon before a workout, but haven’t broken the threshold.

I’ve blow out blood vessels in my sinuses (thinking blowing your nose and some red snot, yum) and also gotten slightly light headed.

If you’re not feeling healthy, thats a bad thing. Puking isn’t a good response to stress.

Work on your conditioning, and stay safe…

I only puked once. I did epic sets of like over 100 reps w/ some weight (forgot the amount didn’t matter) on the leg press, like years ago.

imo puking from working out isn’t the best thing, but ya know, sometimes it happens. I’ve seen a guy do 10 sets of 10 w/ close to 90% of his squat max. He puked three times.

If your not puking you can be working harder. If you are working extremely hard, harder than your body is used to or can handle, you will probobly puke. Lift until you puke on an empty stomach and thats a good workout. If you have never puked squating add some weight son.

I’ve never puked after a workout, although I came close after I tried tabata for the first time.

Your post sounds like it’s straight from a fat high school football coach’s mouth during summer two a days. I’ve sold my soul(and all my future offsprings’ already, sorry guys) on high rep squats leg presses and hacks and never puked. I’ve racked the weight and fallen down hyperventilating thinking about why the hell I do this to myself, but never puked. I’ve had tears rolling out of my eyes on rep 15 when I had 5 more to go or else I failed and gotten to 20.

I’ve burst blood vessels in one of my eyes hitting the 6th rep on a squat with a weight I put on only expecting 4 reps with, and went down for another. I know I’m not alone here, and I know I’m not even close to the most hardcore MFer out there.

Are you(over the internet mind you) going to have the ego to tell me and all the other people reading this who train seriously to add some weight to the bar and try harder?

My post isn’t about how “tough” I am, it’s about not making blanket statements to people you don’t know and that you aren’t there to see.

If you have never puked you don’t know your limits. Just don’t make a habit of it.

I don’t puke every leg day, but I know when its coming. I either ate too late, or ate too much, and consumed too much caffiene. Combine those with heavy squats and deadlifts in the same workout and I might puke. I can’t help it, but I’m not going to lower my training intensity because I feel a little sick. If I feel it, I go to the bathroom and puke, then I feel fine and can go back to my workout.

The thing that really sucks is that I need to keep track of the calories that I lost so I can add them to my PWO meal somehow. Would I prefer to not puke? sure, but sometimes I do so I just deal with. I’m not bulimic and I’m not withering away to nothing.

I would fail on my squat or deadlift set long before I puked.

Lets just skip the workout and punch each other in the stomach, right to the point eh?

I’ve maxed and failed on lifts without EVER puking. Like I said before, if you’re pushing your body that hard, you’re probably not making very much progress.

Puking during cardio is very different from puking during anaerobic work like weight lifting. If you want to puke, thats your business, but don’t bitch when people compare to you a bulimic high school prom date.

Lets lighten up guys…

That had to be a joke. If it wasn’t, I think Scott and SyntheticKiller already responded quite nicely.

LOL, no it wasnt a joke, and I dont think I was bitching. Your right, there is no one characteristic that is going to encompass everybody, so me making a blanket statement may be dumb. However I truly think the majority of people rarely, if ever, allow themselves to leave their comfort zone.

People on fear factor eat whale dicks covered in cow crap and dont puke, some people have a better tolerance. The guys who are getting mad, obviously work hard, but I know the majority of people, will either puke or pass out in extreme condition, a condition they will never allow themselves to reach in the weigth room.

Something which I take a ton of pride in doing. I did like the HS coach analogy though. But like I said before, add more weight son.

I have puked after leg day, never during a set and I have puked running hills and sprints a few times.

More of a conditioning thing. If you stick to strength related stuff you likely won’t puke but you won’t get near your fitness limits although you will certainly test your strength limits.

I’ve never puked from lifting either…I’ve come pretty close when doing sprints and not letting my breakfast sit long enough.

I would say your more of a bitch if you puke to not. Its VERY EASY to hold it back, shows will power. Even the ONE time I puked when I was young and didn’t eat and had an intense 1+hour long cardio session I felt like i could have held it back.

Your all giving in by puking, way to sell yourself short

-Somewhat Sarcasm for you idiots complaining about if your working hard enough you should puke-

Some people are more susceptible to puking, its not healthy though so I would avoid it.

The only times I’ve puked was when:

1st day Wresting training I was dehydraded and drank TOO MUCH water during the water break.

Too many pushups 20 minutes after eating a HUGE dinner of arroz congris (cuban food) and steak.

One year ago, had a shitty breakfast of milk, a PayDay candy bar, and a Muffin. Went home with a headace (low on sugar) drank some orange juice and puked it along with what was left of the Muffin. Interestingly the peanuts on the Payday bar digested with no problem.

Recently I ALMOST puked when Front Squatting+Sprinting 5 minutes after drinking a whole Gatorade, and a lil’ bit of water.

Lesson:
1.Don’t lift with Full Stomach.
2.Don’t drink too much liquid.
3.Lift 45mins AFTER eating. If the meal is big wait longer.

Its not the actual puking, but getting yourself to that point. Either way this is probobly gonna be my last post in this thread cause its clearly not gonna go anywhere.
