How Much Weight is Considered Good?

i benched 300 for two reps and im on a program that will bring ym bench up to 350 right before football starts and i honestly feel it will be at least that high. i can squat 450 for 3 reps dead lift 405 dumb bell miltary press 100s for 4 to 6 reps and power clean for max around 200 i dont do them enough. i weigh 223 steady for the past month ive only statered going to the gym 7 months ago wish i started years ago its my new relgion, and im told by a lot fo people my gains are extremly great for some one relativly new in the gym. my speed is 5 second flat for the 40 with no run training it isnt good but i will start training very soon for that and have it down to 4.8 before football i have a bad stride right now but a great start

and sorry for all that stuff but i was wondering how well do u think im off for my senior year and for hopefully college
so if any one nows some average lifts for junior and sophomers in d1 or d2 colleges can u please list them

I would focus on passing the verbral portion of your SAT’s if you have any hopes of attending college.

Your strength numbers are an excellent foundation. If you are serious about football, then spend just as much time on maximizing your speed.

I second this

ps. you might wanna get your deadlift up some, that’ll also help your cleans

I think his “vebral” ability is actually quite good. It’s the verbal ability that’s lacking.

is running bleachers a good way to get faster? Im not worried about endurance are team is known to play best in the second half. so i would like to have a very strong start.

wondering what do u think of critical benchs work out program im liking it right now im half way through it. But the personall trainer in my gym said i could be even farther ahead if i allowed him to help me out.

I’m trying to think back to my numbers right before my senior year of football. I was around the same weight as you and had a 605 squat, 500 DL, a 300 bench, and a clean right around 215. The deadlift is probably something you will want to bring up. If you can get your bench up to 350 before the season starts more power to ya. I didn’t bench 350 until the month of senior graduation. My advice is don’t blindly follow a program. You need to figure out what works best for you. Oh yeah, and personal trainers are always a pain in the ass.

Running bleachers is a decent drill. Don’t just do that, though - other footwork drills like running tires, footwork ladders, dot drills, and running sprints will all help.

You mentioned you’re working on improving your running form - that’s going to help a lot. Put some real focus into running form and proper footwork in agility drills.

As the trainer about plyometrics - if he hesitates, don’t worry about them for now, but if he knows what he’s doing, plyo’s will help too.

And cleans and snatches.

Lots of options.

Its killing me that someone can have such a huge squat and such a bad powerclean. This is really way off.

Here is what I did before my senior year of football.
500 squat, 3?? bench, 325 powerclean.

Here is what one of my athletes is doing.

550squat, 385 bench, 275 powerclean.

You need to learn to use punctuation every once in a while.

A good bench-mark for lifting for athletes can be found in this .pdf:

Has anyone ever noticed how internet squats are incredibly out of proportion to the bench and deadlift?

Considering the latter two are “hit or miss” lifts where there is no room for interpretation (read: depth), I’m always pretty skeptical when things are way out of whack. Let’s just say that if you walk into any college football weight room in the country and squat 600 pounds raw, you’ll be in the upper tier right away.

i use a bench for my squats that brings my legs right under 90 degrees so my squats are legit.
I was told that some peoples back just talk time to devolop but im going to start doing good mornings and hopefully my dead will go up.

I agree completely. Unless he is very tall, having a bench underneath is going to be way too high. I have two extremely strong kids right now and they are both at 505-535. These are kids that have lifted with me on occasion.

i understand what your saying that most people do cheat squats and i agree. but its not hard to sit on a bench and tell if your knees are at a 90 degree angle or not

If your hip crease is lower than the top of your knee, AKA a legal squat… then your knees will be bent more than 90 degrees.
The difference between a football squat and a powerlifting squat is as big as the difference between an Olympic squat and a powerlifting squat.

I try to compare peoples numbers here.

Since it seems like everyone on the internet is Elite. This helps me bring things into perspective.

i did good mornings on my back day

3 sets for 8 reps just wanted to get the form down and i love them i cant believe no one in my gym knew of these and a few even might take it up to.
