The meet in Feb. is actually at that gym, she held the first one last year and it was a big success. Go check it out.
Don’t worry about training to a rep max on all 3 lifts in one day. I’ve done test days at the end of a set program, but have found that determining my competition numbers didn’t rest on those numbers alone. [/quote]
Frenchie - absolutely check out that gym! I wish I had a place less than an hour away like that.
Like dianab said: competition numbers don’t rest solely on your max lifts. I started out using the rule that you open with a lift that you can triple in the gym with no problem. Doing that and putting all three together for one or two training sessions should give you confidence to do a meet. Also use the other lifters at the gym, in person coaching is invaluable.
Nice Nadia, what happened at lockout there? Looks like you almost fell forward a bit. Came up fairly easy though, I’d say you have a lot more in you.
Anyone got some heavy squatting going on? I did 230 with knee wraps on Monday night, was not a huge grind and that surprised me. Rack pulls on deck for Friday, if my hams have recovered by then I’ll try and get a vid or 2.
If any of you guys have some more vids, post 'em up. They are really enjoyable.
I’ve done weightlifting off and on for a few years but due to my inconsistency never made any real gains. However since May I’ve been really dedicated and am very determined not to let myself fall off the wagon in spring like I usually do. (Stupid sport’s on season makes me lazy in the gym!)
Since May my deadlift, which is my favorite lift by far, and my 5RM has gone up 120 pounds from a very pathetic 65 to 185. I’m not sure what my 1RM is but I’m guessing somewhere around 200. I know that these gains are just from re-learning the lift but I try to tell myself I already knew the lift and I can make the same increases in another 7 months! For reference I’m 5’6 and 165, but quite a good bit of that is fat sadly.
I really love the deadlift and I’m very optimistic about continuing my progress in it.
What kind of assistance work do you all do with your deadlifts? I usually read that good mornings are the exercise to do but I was wondering what other exercises people use.
I’m doing powercleans right now but I’d like to include something else that isn’t good mornings. I was thinking of doing rack pulls to get used to handling heavier weights and improve my speed on my normal lift, but I’d love to hear what else people do and why?
I do good mornings, hammie curl, weighted hypers, and shrugs as assistance. Just started wide-stance squats as assistance as well, which seems like it would really aid the sumo puller. Which I’m not.
