How Long for Legs to Recover?

Right now, I’m doing some light 5x5 squatting for my leg work. 2 to 3 minute rest times. I’d train harder but the training I’m doing right now is causing some considerable discomfort, and I’m afraid of what would happen if started training them hard. It takes 3 days before the pain even hits me, and 5 to 7 before they feel better. If I throw in some deadlifts, it hurts just to get in and out of a chair. Again, I’m doing some pretty weak ass training here, and I don’t think I should be hurting this much from working so little.

So, is this the way regular leg training is supposed to work or am I doing something wrong?

You need to build conditioning. Start working each muscle group more frequently. Start light and do squats, press and pull every 2 days. Work through whatever soreness you have. The soreness will go away. Once you are able to, increase the weight. Increase the weight every workout. Not a lot but make the increase steady. 5x5 may be too much volume. With high frequency training 3x5 is better. Do deadlifts once a week on a light squat day. 1x5 is enough for deadlifts.
