I’ve been working out at home for a few years now. I’m going to rejoin my old LA Fitness, and they are requiring members to checkin with their app, they don’t do keycards anymore.
I have cellphone addiction and intentionally have an old smartphone because not all apps work on it, so I end up using it less. Its a choice that does cause some inconveniences at time.
The LA Fitness app won’t install on my phone, so I think I’m out of luck in that regard. I’m curious how common it is for gyms to require app checkin? Thank you for any feedback.
At 24-Hour Fitness, they give you an option of checking in with your phone number in a keypad or using the app. I hate the app check-in thing. It’s a hassle.
Are you saying that they will refuse your entrance without their app on your cell phone? You can’t just give them your cell phone number on file when you enter?:
I don’t even like bringing my cell phone into the gym. My small community gym now requires the ball button app to sign in so I have to now. I don’t like it either!
All the LAs I frequent have both options
app on phone or the little keychain card
I will check again, but i asked if I had to have the app to check in and he said if you’re a new member yes, because they only have the keychain barcode thing for previous members.
Even my tiny small town gym makes you use an app. I haven’t actually used it, but I get a lot of email updates… lol
I prefer my home gym… most of the time.
Fellow phone-averse gym rat here! Sounds like LA Fitness might be trying to force you into an upgrade But seriously, check for a kiosk option or explain your situation to the staff. They might be able to work with you.
