I put my fat grips on the bar and it eliminates the small amount of discomfort that I had before on heavier sets.

Zercher Squat. Ed Zercher came up with this squat variety many years ago. In 1966 or 1967, I read about a prisoner by the name of Robert Barnett, who had just pulled a 675 deadlift at 165 BWT. He related that the Zercher squat was responsible for his success. He reported that his best was 395 x 5 reps done off the floor. The article also said that Alexander Karelin, the famous Soviet wrestler, had done 440 for 5 reps while visiting Finland. I was sold on this exercise and have been doing them for years. I found them tough right after my right bicep tendon rupture in 1979. I finally came up with a device called the Zercher harness, TO TAKE THE PRESSURE OFF THE BICEPS. Our deadlifts started going up again when we added heavy Zerchers into the rotating program. Thanks, Ed Zercher, wherever you are.
That was written by Louie Simmons, Westside barbell, it seems like he wanted to take the pressure off the biceps and so came up with a harness. Is this a powerlifter who thought zercher squats put pressure on the bicep?
That was immediately after a full bicep rupture caused by deadlifting, NOT by the Zerchers.
If you’ve very recently had your distal biceps tendon detatch itself from the bone, you should not be doing zerchers.

Thanks for laying it out bare for us: those who don’t argue with you make the best progress and those who do are weak and small, and will be forever. I don’t need to discuss things with you. I know what works for my body and the only “discussion” you can tolerate is one where you preach and everyone else agrees with you.
Let’s break this down:
- Zerchers aren’t a good exercise FOR YOU PERSONALLY
- Zerchers are a great exercise FOR MANY OTHERS
- Some people who do Zerchers aren’t interested in looking like a bodybuilder
- Other people who do Zerchers are interested in looking like a bodybuilder and believe that Zerchers contribute to that goal
- Zerchers may or may not be a great tool for people with goals pertaining to size and strenth
Is there anything there you disagree with?
The only reason anyone is arguing with you in this thread is because you’re making sweeping generalizations about who does zerchers, who should do them, and the efficacy of an exercise that you’ve personally never pursued seriously. This is the end of my responding to you in this thread, since any argument you have with the above 4 points is only going to illustrate what I’ve been saying all along: you’re still posting because you have to be the authority on everything and have to have the last word.

Similar to that, but both legs up so that the back of her knees are draped over the crook of your elbow.
Surely you’ve done that^, Push?

The best part is that he tried them once and decided “nope, these hurt” as if to prove he’s been right all along… when it’s been mentioned in the beginning of this thread by people who have incorporated them seriously, that yes it does hurt, but you get used to them after a few workouts.

You’re an idiot at this point. The op sent me a pm apologizing for this thread but he shouldn’t even feel responsible for it. Acting like an ass just because you see me post is getting old.
Either put me on ignore, or quit the bullshit. Having a bunch of trolls cheer you on and people who seem to just like to argue for no reason must make you feel real good.
If the OP himself had no problem with me, what the fuck is your problem?
I am asking the OP for permission to post his pm to me…because he went into quite a lot of depth about the way he felt about the responses here.
It is funny…if the OP feels that way…what good are you doing?
So…
- Zerchers aren’t a good exercise FOR X PERSONALLY
- Zerchers are a great exercise FOR MANY OTHERS
- Some people who do Zerchers aren’t interested in looking like a bodybuilder
- Other people who do Zerchers are interested in looking like a bodybuilder and believe that Zerchers contribute to that goal
- Zerchers may or may not be a great tool for people with goals pertaining to size and strength
Any disagreement? Anyone?

First off, since you are resorting to name calling, I expect no more accusations of “you’re attacking me”.
Second off, maybe you missed this part of my earlier post, it should answer your question:
The only reason anyone is arguing with you in this thread is because you’re making sweeping generalizations about who does zerchers, who should do them, and the efficacy of an exercise that you’ve personally never pursued seriously.
Back on topic:
Another thing I like about doing zerchers off of the pins is that there is absolutely no way I can make the lift if I don’t drive my head back HARD. Dropping my head is a problem I’ve had with my squat and deadlift for a while, so I really feel like they help with that.

BULLSHIT. After all of this for you to cry because I called you an idiot once is retarded.
The OP himself wrote to me that he understood what my point was. If he did, what point are you making here? That YOU disagree with everything I write? Who the fuck cares what you think?
The goal was a discussion about the topic. That didn’t require the usual witch hunt.
You are at fault here as much as anyone else…yet you keep pointing fingers.
The OP added me as a friend…yet YOU have an issue still?
Bullshit. Get over yourself.
No matter what trolls cheer you on, you are fucking up here. Keep it up.

It’s a very advanced full body explosive functional compound lift that was invented by the Russia/Chinese, I wouldn’t expect you to be familiar with it.

Re-read the post you quoted. My issue has nothing to do with you insulting the OP. It has to do with sweeping generalizations that you made that since YOU don’t like zerchers, they aren’t effective for anyone with bodybuilding-oriented goals. That is FALSE and I’m arguing with you here because you refuse to draw the distinction between not good for YOU and not good for ANYONE.
Being that you have NOTHING to contribute to this topic other than “zerchers aren’t a good exercise for me”, your posting in this thread should have ended at that if you’re really interested in a “discussion about the topic” UNLESS “discussion about the topic” means “X gives his opinion and everyone else either agrees or keeps quiet”. How much since your initial post have you contributed to this topic?
I find it ironic that every thread in which someone disagrees with you is a “witch hunt”, but I’m the one that needs to get over myself. I’ve acknowledged that I’m prolonging this clusterfuck of a hijack by responding to you, but you’re still acting like you’re not at least somewhat at fault because you keep arguing that your way is the only way.
gregron wrote:

True, unless we’re talking Bosu ball hijinks here, haha.
I posted that list so we could have SOME consensus that whether or not zerchers are appropriate is an entirely individual matter. The procedure for responding to threads like this should be:
- Do you like this exercise?
a. If no: make a statement as such in one post or less
b. If so: provide input, insight, experience, etc.

More like a “no hard feelings” type of thing. Tensions seemed pretty high in this thread, and I just wanted to clarify that I didn’t hold any animosity.

It isn’t false because the issue was heavy biceps training that most powerlifters don’t do with the same frequency. YOU have not proved this to not be an added risk…because YOU don’t lift that much.
This was explained backwards and forwards, and if the OP gets it, whether you do is irr-fucking-elevant.
