Home Gym So Far

When you can get some stuff from Ironmaster, you’ll be very happy! The dumbbell set and bench with attachments along with the lat/row/tricep attachment to my power rack are the best investments I’ve made!

After having your rack for awhile, are you satisfied with the quality? I was thinking about this setup at my home. ( POWER RACK HOME GYM ) It’s definitely more affordable than some of the other options I’ve read about in other posts. I have a suspended garage ( basically a room in my basement the same size as my 3 car garage) and I plan on making this my home gym; dimensions roughly 21 ft by 31 ft.

I absolutely love the ELITE racks but the prices make me take a gulp. Anyone one else with feedback regarding NY barbells stuff versus Elite, please comment. Also, what are some good cable crossovers? If I end up buying a rack without the lat/crossover attached, since I have the room, I’d def want one.

I’m debating between the selectorized - http://www.bodysolid.com/Item.aspx?ItemID=667&ItemLabel=Body-Solid+Functional+Training+Center%3A+Body-Solid+Functional+Training+Center or the plate loaded which is 1/2 the price from powertec- http://www.powertecfitness.com/shapesystem.htm .
Last, as far as dumbells, I’ve read many opinions, powerblocks - which have pros and cons, bowflex quick-locks, stamina versa-bells, titan, probells & hoist locking dumbells. Only 2-3 expand to over 50lbs but my concern above that was grasp and durablility; against dropping. Anyone and everyone give me your opinion on racks, crossovers and dumbells, I’d appreciate it!

Yea, I absolutely love that I took the risk (money wise) to go ahead and get this rack when I almost couldn’t afford it. I didn’t want to get caught up in waiting too long, and wasting my money on less important things (as I know I would, eventually).

I can’t tell you about the crossovers yet, but from reading others’ opinions on nybarbell’s quality, and their quality of what I have from them so far, I would imagine their crossovers to have great quality as well, and I’ll be getting the attachment when I can afford it.

My garage is 21’X19’ if I remember correctly (2 car), and so far, using only half of it has been working fine.

I really like the durability of the rack, including the bolts that have locking material inside the threads (plastic or something) to help keep them tight.

I haven’t tried dropping the cheap adjustable Walmart dumbbells that I have, and I plan on getting the Ironmaster adjustable ones (thanks to Nate for suggesting them, otherwise I wouldn’t have known about them).

I don’t like the Bowflex at all mostly because they don’t get very heavy (newest model goes to 90lbs, and costs $600 for dbells only), and they look like they have too many moving parts that can break.

I really liked the powerblocks from what I’ve read and seen, and it was really a toss-up between them and the ironmasters.

I think you can get up to 120lbs with the ironmasters for almost the same price as 90lbs of the Bowflex, and the ironmasters look A LOT more sturdy and durable.

I really like elitefts’ quality too, but they were definitely out of my price range, and to be honest, they’re probably overkill for my strength range, even if I improve greatly over the next decade.

The racks are good and sturdy. I’ve had mine for just over 3 years and it has held well with us abusing the shit out of it.

Look up what you want on nybarbells.com and buy it from Susan Patterson at midwestbarbell.com.

What’s with the feet at the bottom of your rack?

Is that for bands, or just to get the rack higher?

Looks like a great setup.

Both. I welded some rectangular tubing to the bottom to raise it so I can take a wider stance and it also gives me a place to choke bands.

thanks
