how so?

Im going to try it again some time soon. aiming to muscle snatch the first few. been building up my explosiveness out of the hole, I one motioned a 90kg log for 8 reps on sunday so the power is there!

im weighing 145kilos/320lbs just now. and about 30-40% fat. people should be beating me!

Congrats on the log press

I am planing to do this again soon but moving back into more implement training got to really kick it up a notch to get ready for nationals.

You werent really humping the bar up, it looked (to me at least, would not be the first time I was wrong) like you were reverse curling 185 up like that, which is pretty fucking impressive.

I don’t think Poundstone competed. Ortameyer won and Jenkins a new pro got 2nd

ahhh thats the one.

Jenkins!

Two of the guys i train with competed against him at the Arnolds Amateur Strong man! Apparently he is an absolute machine!

What are the events of your next comp?

Seems so. He won that which was a very tough comp and I think this was his first pro show taking 2nd so yeah he is a beast.

The events for nationals will be posted in 1-2 weeks (nationals is in November)

i love the way you dont now the events till few weeks out. what about weights - will they be posted?

Yes, they are giving plenty of time. About three months, at least this year they are announcing when the events will be announced haha. Weights will be heavy. The weighs are all the same for all Lightweight classes so as a 175lber it will be tough lifting the same weights as the 231s!

Not exactly. There is two classes LW (231 and under) HW (232 and up) But divisions within of 175,200 and 231. So I will be competing in the 175 class against other 175er’s but the weights for the events are the same for all LW’s

Some nice strongman thread jacking haha

Hi guys, I came across this thread whilst researching the clean and press as a unique and singular training routine.

I am a 38 year old male, I work very long shifts as a Police Officer and have a young family and busy social life. I have trained pretty much since the age of 16 and although reasonably fit i am in no way strong or in the shape that I would prefer.

I have undertaken various abbreviated training routines throughout my time as I found these to be the most productive. I am very interested in the Clean and Press as a routine in itself.

I have for the past month exclusively trained only on the clean and press. I can be in and out of the gym in 30 minutes and probably hit the gym twice a week (due to recovery etc).

What I have found is that my upper back and arms have increased dramatically. I have not done anything else over the month other than clean and press and I am struggling to get some of my shirts on. This is a good sign and I am very pleased.

I have gained in my back, arms, shoulders, chest and legs, so I can vouch for it being an all over conditioning exercise.

I just need to lose about 7 - 10 pounds of fat (middle aged spread I believe its called) and then I will be happy.

I have been training using the 5 sets of 5 reps approach and have found this the best (certainly for me) in putting on muscle. I just need to lose some fat now.

I am after any advice on how to stay with only using the clean and press (and nothing else) how it is best to loose fat, should i increase the reps, increase the sets, any advice would be appreciated.

^^ you’re best method for losing weight is to fix your diet. Dial in your diet and you’ll drop the weight you’re looking for.

You could always try ending your workout with a little bit lighter weight for a higher rep set or two for “conditioning” but your best bet is fixing your diet.

You said you lift two days a week? Is it possible to bump that up to 3 sessions a week? (I know you said one of your issues was recovery) so maybe you do a push up, pull up, dip workout on one of those days? I think this would be very beneficial to you and might not be an issue with your recovery?

You could also get a jump rope and do 10-15 minutes of rope work after you’re done lifting. That’s quick, doesn’t require a lot of space or equipment and will help you drop some BF.

Good luck man.
