High Bar Squatting and Knee Pain

How long should knee travel continue throughout a squat? I have noticed my knees keep traveling forward until I am at the very bottom of a high bar squat.

Should they initiate the movement and then cut off 1/3rd of the way down? By the way I am talking about olympic high bar squats not a hybrid squat.

Rule of thumb for form is to sit down on a box that is about the height of a your squat, then stand up with the goal of not rocking. You should keep trying stances without a bar until you can stand up easily without the aforementioned movement.

They should travel forward however far they need to in order for you to get to full depth with an upright torso and tight, flat back. There is no rule of thumb for this.

Yes you break at the knees first and sit down between your hips. As long as you keep the bar over your center of gravity you’ll be fine.

exactly. it really is that simple.

if you are experiencing severe pain or do not have the structure for this, consider switching to another style.
