I found that front laterals and lots of sets work best. And def switch it up from super heavy to high reps.
Do more olympic lifts (power clean, hang clean, snatch, overhead squat, supersets of exercises like these, etc.). These will build your traps, which is what you want.
Dumbell exercises like the Arnold press and a few others I don’t have names for are good.
Specific unnamed exercises are where you take one dumbell in each hand with arms extended and flat at your sides and while keeping your arms 100% straight pull them up in a “flying motion” until your hands meet above your head. Simple but very hard and effective, all traps as well.
Also I have one where you take one dumbell in each hand and start in a position where your arms are bent at the elbows at 90 degree angles in front of you (kind of like a boxer in a low-glove stance). From here you move your arms in a fluid motion above your head to the position how people generally flex their biceps. Keep your arms at the 90 degree angle the whole time, just move them from the “boxer position” to the “bicep-flexing position” over and over. This again is all traps.
Military press isn’t that good for building your shoulders… too much emphasis on the triceps and lats.

How do you know he wants to build his traps? Maybe they’re fine.
Are you kidding? How much do you military press.
Some of the advice in this thread is pretty sad. Not specifically talking about rusty barbell either.

go high volume on the suckers try 5 sets of 20 rep lat raises or cable front shoulder raises. That will get them sore, delts respond to high volume.

traps is definitely not a focus point on me, i can easily shrug 275 for 8 and i can only press 135 for 4-8 depends on the day so imagine how that looks lol
