Thanks!
My deadlift is nowhere near where I want it to be, but Iām always pretty pleased with how good my arms look while Iām pulling.
11/6/2014
Squat:
45 10x
135 10x
185 5x
225 5x
275 3x
315 3x
365 3x
385 2x
315 5x Squatting the day after deadlifts continues to prove challenging. Thatās fine though. One of them is going to be after the other, and Iād rather focus on deadlifting right now.
Unilateral Leg Press:
20x
15x
12x
12x
12x I like doing these one leg at a time much better.
I superset those with calf raises as well.
Damn I need to catch the log up.
11/7/2014
Bench: like my second time benching since the meet lol
45 10x
95 10x
135 10x
185 5x
225 5x
275 3x
295 1x
315 2x
275 5x
275 5x
275 5x
My body has already completely forgotten how to bench press lol. Also for some reason that gave me the most wicked tricep cramp for the rest of the workout.
Arnolds:
50ās 10x
70ās 10x
50ās 10x
50ās 10x
Bent Arm Incline Flies:
50ās 10x
50ās 10x
50ās 10x
Lateral Raises
4 sets of 15ish
Cable Flies:
4 sets of 15ish
Close Grip Bench:
few sets of 10 with just 135
DB Skullcrushers:
30ās for 4 sets of 12
Pushdowns:
few sets to burnout
abs, calves, and neck circuit
Thatās the best I can remember at least.
11/8/2014
Deadlift:
135 5x
225 3x
315 3x
405 2x
405 1x
455 1x
495 3x
495 1x
405 5x
405 5x
405 5x
Deadlifts felt like shit for some reason. In fact my 495 triple from that day where I did 405 for 12 first felt a lot better than it did today when I was fresh going in to it. I might not be warming up enough.
Grip Nerd Stuff:
loaded hub lifts w/ the rolling thunder weight pin that I made and a cool hockey puck handle attachment Chia made
sledgehammer levers
wrist curls
Incline Bench DB Rows:
70ās for 4 sets of 10
Atlas Stones:
set of 5 w/ 240lb stone
EZ Bar Curls:
90 for 3 sets of 15
Chain Curls:
3 sets of 12
Seated Incline DB Curls:
30ās for 3 sets to failure
Calves and Abs
3 sets of 15 pullups
11/9/2014
Squat:
135 5x
185 5x
225 5x
275 3x
315 3x
365 1x
405 1x
315 5x
315 5x
Well at least this is the first time Iāve worked up to 405 again ever since I moved deadlifts to the day before squats lol.
Leg Curls:
4 sets of 12, slow negative, heavy partial burnout at the end
Unilateral Leg Press:
4 sets of 12
BW Hacksquat Machine:
4 sets of 12
Pullups:
5 sets of 15
Leg Raises:
4 sets of 15
I like this new ābodybuilder-esqueā routine you got going on. I have a couple of questions for you that Iām sure is somewhere in your logs but figured I would just ask you directlyā¦
-
What was your reasoning for switching to the high bar squat as opposed to the low bar position?
-
What was your method of building your high bar squat to even or above your low bar squat?
I ask because I was messing around with high bar position today during warm ups and it felt really good and am considering switching to that myself. Possibly using the old school 5x5 linear progression method to build it up overtime but continuing with 5/3/1 for my other lifts. Any info you are willing to share would be appreciated.
The strength will always come back as the body gets used to new stimulus and volume. Cool to see yours bounce back so fast
Nice training sessions lately. Have you picked out another meet?
Whatās up Csulli? Are you taking a break from powerlifting/strongman training, or just kind of going on an accumulation phase type of thing? Also, awesome deadlift challenge video (the singles with 405 against Chia). How long did it take you to complete that? It looks like noon when you start, and night when you end.

Actually Iāve been squatting exclusively low bar since the meet. I did go through a several month span before that though of high bar squatting. I got my high bar within Iād say about 20lbs of my low bar, which is huge for me, because, no exaggeration I think my high bar started out at least 100lbs under what my low bar squat was at the time.
I trained some high bar just to try and build some additional quad strength. I use a lot of lower back in my squats, and I could really use some additional leg strength and muscle (especially down towards the knee). High bar has always felt much more natural than low bar, but if Iām playing to my strengths, low bar will always be my competition style. If I could go back and do it all over Iād probably just start out squatting high bar and stick to it. But I learned from powerlifters first rather than weightlifters so here I am with low bar lol.

Iām taking an offseason. My diet is very on point, and Iām going to do a good long bodybuilding phase to see if I can add some additional muscle mass and generalized strength. Iām still focusing on upping my deadlift though. Iāve upped my volume, frequency, and intensity on deads. Thatās been plateaued for way too long now.
Also Iām gonna focus more on shoulders and pressing than bench for a while. Iāve got a lot of room for improvement in that regard strength wise.
I think that deadlift challenge only took about an hour
but it was really cool, because we started kinda right before the sun was about to go down.

I looked the other day. It will be probably May or so of next year at the earliest.

You certainly came to the right person to ask about squatting, csulli isnāt called the Squat Goat for no reason.
@Csulli: What happened to perfecting your positions in the DL/SQ? Seems like you threw that away and got back to lifting with crappy form again. Less meathead and more professional Chinese wightlifting attitude!

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like you and I have a similar squat style. I took some points from Rippetoeās style early on and as I kept squatting and getting some pointers from other lifters I found a decent groove with my low bar squat. I may start some high bar squats in the near future to bring up my leg strength as you did. A lot of articles I have read said itās easier to switch from high bar to low bar than vice versa.

lol, Csullinator needs proper glute control to keep those cheeks pinned to the bench.

WTF M8?! Thatās a long time between comps!
