'Hardcore'

Meh,

I think we are taking the term “hardcore” out of context with the above. I believe all who are mature understand that lifting weights in whatever capacity is extremely low on the totem poll with regards to the truly hardcore ventures out there whether it be in a profession or a worldly pursuit.

I think this is dealing with Hardcore within the limits of the gym and what you do perform better therein

Fair point.

Do you still have the same email address Brick? I wanted to drop you a line and ask your opinion about something

Hardcore? I shit my pants squatting once (had like 175 on the bar), not a little rabbit pellet either but a full on sock filler down my leg, I think that might qualify, but of course I may have had a hangover, so hardcore for me is shitting yourself while squatting with a hangover, or as I like to call it, Wednesday.

Yeah sure. Go ahead.

Sorry if I got a bit too deep here or out of context. It’s just that I’ve seen some people take this hardcore attitude BEYOND the gym and express their disdain or disgust for “normal people”.

Nah man, not at all. After reading it again I think the operative word is mature, and there is a lot of immature folk on these boards so that passage has alot of credence to keep people speaking in relative terms.

LOL, awesome.

Not to that extent, but I shit my pants squatting a few weeks ago, like you not a fun nugget but shit water…

ME BEING UBER HARDCORE…I went to the bathroom wiped my ass with the clean part of my draws, toilet seat covers, and tp…and continued SLAMMIN DA IRON.

effing hardcore brah…and filthy.

This used to be an obnoxiously prevalent POV on this board, if I remember correctly… or, at least, the idea that simply lifting weights makes someone “above average”.

I threw up after squatting once. Just a little bit, managed to keep it all in the mouth but it definitely counts.

Can I be in the hardcore dirty protest squat gang too?

Hmmm not sure you kept it in your mouth, did you end up swallowing the puke???

I haven’t really felt hardcore since I stopped doing strongman training a few years back, there are certainly far less people pushing trucks around than pushing weights at the gym!

I also briefly thought this one guy was hardcore at my gym, until he continued the really loud “hiss” exhale while pushing the water fountain button.

On a more serious note though, my personal hardcore definition now is giving each rep 110% all the time, I’m having my own Rocky moment every time…

yes, yes I did. Had I been closer to a bin I’d’ve spat it in there but I had to think fast

When others label your training as hard core, it is probably a better indicator than a self label. [/quote]

^This. When you’ve got a full time job, a family to support, time to spend with the kids, work and social commitments, and you still find time to get your training in, week after week, year after year, actually making progress… to me, that’s worthy of the term.

No doubt.

Great new avatar

I agree with this and above posts. Most people who are “hardcore” and are able to train far beyond their comfort zones to make consistent progress are the last ones to brag about being “hardcore”

Example: John Schlecht. Easily the biggest, meanest, and most explosive bodybuilder/athlete I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Yet, one of the most humble guys I’ve ever met.

pooping while lifting??? YES

I let go of some diarrhea in my pants while pulling a PR last month. I wiped up and then hit my back down sets before going home. I’m not going to lie, the diarrhea made the PR all the more sweeter

Lol whenever I see your avatar I think of that South Park episode where they give Mr. Mackey all those laxatives.

Good post. I am sure some of us even do community service. I know I do. This isn’t about acting like all other priorities or life goals come after the gym That isn’t what I consider success anyway…and I doubt anything in what I have written ever has ever given that impression.

My perspective is that nothing I can do in life is as near hardcore as the fine folks (read: volunteers) who we send overseas to jump out of airplanes and get shot at for a living.

One question I do have is, why is it when discussions about being hardcore in the gym come up, some people respond as if the guys who consider themselves serious gym trainers ignore all of the other aspects of life?

If I see a hardworking student, do I need to point out the kids working in sweat shops at the age of 5 as if they really aren’t having such a hard time?

It just seems sort of “elitist” to act that way unless literally speaking to a room full of people who truly don’t do anything but lift weights and eat all day.
