Hardcore Essentials

Souldozer I appreciate the following along and your story. If this jerk on the harley even twitched like he was going for a weapon he would have been very sorry. I was about 5 feet from him and would have easily jumped the distance onto him and knocked him off his cycle following with lethal force. No messing around.
chobbs-Having a gun doesn’t make you invincible but one must take caution.

Tonight was an extremely fast and furious lifting.

T-Handle Swings:
110 lbs x 100 swings(btwn sets)

Squats:(ATG-RAW!)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 5
470 x 1

Fat Gripz Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1
255 x 1
225 x 2 sets x 3 reps

32 Minutes lift time and my arms and chest were fried from the previous two days. A good session.

How’s the bench coming along?

Lol @ Machetes can make a statement…you think!!!

You are mastering the art of HIT for PL. Good work GV.

OP-That made me crack up. Yeah, I’m not really wanting to do the HIT but I’ve been so rushed. Thanks

Matty-Machetes do make a bold statement.

Fischer-My bench is coming along nicely. I was doing great up until around New Years when I became ill and weak. So building back up has been fun and I’m about where I was or better for my last meet. And, I’m building well so hopefully I’ll continue to hit new PRs on reestablishing my bench.

A neighbor joined me to lift tonight. He has expressed interest in lifting with me so I hope he is consistent. Tonight went well though my bench is still a little less than what I wanted however considering how much was lifted earlier this week all went well.

T-Handle Swings:
110 x 100 swings(btwn sets)

Squats:
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 5
405 x 1
478 x 1

Fat Gripz Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1
255 x 1
275 x 1

Hanging Leg Raises:
1 x 20

Had a handoff on the bench for the first time in a year. I could feel the difference immediately in not exerting for the unracking and I think in the future having the lift off will aid me in making greater gain on my bench. I may even convince my training partner to compete in a powerlifting meet in the near future, now that would be awesome.

Great work. Having a training partner is a big plus. Just break him in easy and don’t scare him off.

So how is the partner doing? Is he a complete newbie or does he have an athletic background?

Jack, your advice is right on. I’m making every effort to be as accommodating as possible. He is interested in building strength and conditioning. Having him to aid in making gains and the occasional assist is a big bonus.

Cavalier, my neighbor has some MMA fighting experience but he was injured years ago in competition I believe. He is a construction contractor for remodels in kitchens and bathrooms as well as other renovations so he has some base in physical work and athletics.

So far as he has told me he hasn’t lifted in years and wants to rebuild. With the right progression I believe he will make fast gains before plateauing and then we will work on stabilizing his gains while making gradual increases over the duration. For not benching in a long time last night he was able to do 225 lbs using Fat Gripz(For the 1st time) for 2 reps but he could only squat 95 lbs for 5 sets of 5. I think in the immediate future he will make large jumps if he is consistent. I also had him doing 25 lbs kettle bell swings for 10 reps between sets and he finished the routine with 20 Hanging knee raises, which went fairly well. Overall, he did great for the first training.

Saturday I ran a short routine and introduced the football bar to my new training partner.

T-Hanlde Swings:
110 lbs x 50 swings(btwn sets)

Squats:
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 5

Football Bar Close Grip Benches:
123 x 10
153 x 5
173 x 5
213 x 1

Trap Bar Deadlifts:
140 x 6
230 x 5
320 x 5
410 x 1
500 x 1(Wanted more but I was feeling a bit beat up)

Fast and mostly easy night. I will make an effort to incorporate more deads in my lifting to increase this lift.

Trapbar walks(Farmer walks) with between 315-405 for 50 yrds will build your deadlift. A lot.

Every 10 yrds you stop and do a rep. Turn around and repeat back to home.

We will be doing these a lot in the future on lower body days.

Rick-Thank you so much for putting that up because that was exactly what I was thinking of doing and now that you wrote it I will add the trap bar walks. I think they’ll be fun and challenging.

Last night the lifting was intense and my training partner is doing great.

T-Handle Swings:
110 x 100 swings(btwn sets)

Safety Bar Squats(RAW!-ATG):
155 x 10
245 x 5
335 x 5
425 x 1

High Incline Bench Press:
135 x 10
155 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 1
235 x1(Had some left in the tank but discretion to leave some for the next time)

Deadlifts:
225 x 5
315 x 3

Hanging Leg Raises:
1 x 20

All went well and the next lifting(today) I will incorporate trap-bar walks for variation and heavy destruction.

Take slow steady steps when walking and don’t rush the walk - trust me on this. When you’re fatigued going heavy and stumble or fall it’s not very conductive to a good session.

I have gone as far as 100yrds with 315 straight. Your a better puller than me so you got this…

I wish I had a steady partner. I can never find anyone who wants to stay with it. I find my progress is always better, when I have someone to push me.

I will echo would Rick says on the taking slow steady steps. I wrote in my log last night about trying farmers carries (albeit with farmers walk handles at a total of 2X bodyweight) yesterday. Definitely a different experience than doing them with 1x bodyweight where you just lift and go as fast as possible.

Congrats on finding a workout partner and great work as always.

Dave you and Rick are right on, thanks. Yesterday the lifting was fun and energized followed by complete frizzled, fried muscles after the work.

T-Handle Swings:
110 x 100 swings(btwn sets)

Front Squats:
135 x 10
225 x 5
275 x 3
315 x 3
426 x 1(Front Squat Harness)

Standing Overhead Presses:
135 x 5
155 x 3
205 x 1

Floor Presses:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1
255 x1

Trap Bar Walks:
230 x 120 yards(One turnaround-2 stops-3 individual reps)

Wow! What a finisher the trap bar walks were. The devastation was amazing. Thanks Rick.

Damn. Those are some big time front squats.

Thanks Crippler.
I have been physically torn up since Tuesday and I have done more work than usual the last 2 days as well. So, I lifted tonight anyway even though my lifting partner could not make it.

T-Handle Swings:
110 lbs x 100 swings(btwn lifting sets)

Squats:(RAW!-ATG)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1
480 x 1

Fat Gripz Bench Press;
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1
255 x 1(This felt unusually heavy tonight so that was it for me)

This work went fairly quickly, about 40 minutes, and I am physically depleted. Tomorrow’s another day so on to the next one.

Great stuff as always GV, Trap Bar walks for the win ! Must have been awesome!
