Nice work. It can be extremely tough to cram lifting into life’s plans. Having a supportive wife sure helps. How’s the shoulder coming along?
Thanks hawkcapt, my shoulder is doing well now with the occasional reminder that I need to do therapy on a constant daily regimen. In fact my whole body is feeling up to par with the litany of micro-trauma showing its ugly head in aches and pains on a regular basis. I think this is to be expected but with mobility work and deep tissue work the pain is manageable, treatable, and not hindering.
I took a whole weekend off these past two days and I feel ready to pounce so later today the weights should move nicely.
You need to have a talk with the guy whos name is “vanillagorilla”
I was called the vanilla gorilla years ago and I wanted that name here but it was taken or some other powerlifter used that name so I just adapted.
This afternoon had it’s ups and downs.

So I pulled my left hamstring at the bottom of the 515 lbs squat. I worked through the rep and for the rest of lifting there was pain but it wasn’t too bad. I just had to be cautious. Afterward for 4 hours of virtual online class the bastard hammy started aching. I put on the MARC PRO and did the electric muscle stimulation for a couple hours during class but the pain has not subsided yet. Hopefully I will whip this trauma fast however I may squat light the next few days. Tomorrow morning I will have a better barometer of how to proceed but in the mean time I will do lots of direct therapy.
Fuck man, I hope its just minor.
As far as the virtual class, that sounds great I am always looking for side ventures seems like you have a lot going on and still killing the weights
Thanks Matty life is busy. Woke up this morning with quite a bit of pain in my left hamstring however I can move. I will change my lifting for the next week or so. I will squat every lift day but the weight and reps will be minimized. While I am training out the injury to my hammy I will be concentrating on improving my bench. So, I will look at this time as a bench focus period.
Good luck with the hammy GV, hopefully it is something minor. As much as you have been squatting, backing off for a few days may actually work in your favor.
Dave you may be right, I’m going to find out.
So I’ve been doing a lot of EMS therapy for my pulled hamstring and although I have pain it’s tolerable, nothing I haven’t been through before. So I lifted this afternoon after work.

Squats:(ATG/RAW!)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 5(felt a bit of a twinge but did not stop me)

My hamstring felt better the more I did. I had some pain after lifting but way less discomfort than last night. I did about 2 hours of EMS while taking class tonight and it seems to really be helping me recover at an extremely fast rate.
Hamstring injuries suck. Make sure you baby that sucker.
Thanks Crippler I will be cautious.
Last night lifting was rushed but went well.

Having severe allergy stuffiness in my sinus. Life is good.
Sounds like a full body rebellion GV. I hope that hammie heals soon for you. That’s got to be worrisome. I don’t lift enough weight so its never happened to me.
Thanks OP. Hammy is healing nicely. I’m a bit perplexed about the way I felt the last few days. I have been stuffed up, muscles achy, and sluggish. Thought allergies were attacking but this morning I feel a lot better. Perhaps I had a cold. My young ones had been sick but I didn’t think I caught it from them. Maybe I was wrong.
Working in the grass and weeds has been hell. Yesterday I couldn’t lift at all due to me feeling as if a brahma bull had run me over and then gored me. Today is a new day and hopefully later on I will crush a pile of weights.
I’m sure you’ve explained this in your log somewhat, but what’s a normal day of eating look like for you?
@Chobbs-I begin the day usually with a bagel, a protein bar, a huge tablespoon of peanut butter, and a tablespoon of local unprocessed honey. About 3 hours later I will have a 60 gram protein shake and a banana. Roughly 3 hours following I will have a bowl of noodles, broccoli, chicken and cheese, a handful of almonds, and maybe some cashews or cranraisins. I will lift weights and then have another banana, a bagel, and a 60 gm protein shake.
Finally 3-4 hours later I will have dinner which may consist of salmon, steak, chicken an onion-tomato-cucumber salad, usually a rice pilaf or mashed potatoes, and maybe broccoli instead of the vegi salad. I’m not listing the multiple times I take vitamins and supplements and a cup of coffee in the morning and one cup of coffee before lifting. That is a normal day of eating. Of course in the morning and early afternoon I am working too. Sometimes I deviate from this pattern but rarely and I may sneak slices of cheese in to the mix. One thing I forgot is I try to have a couple of pieces of 72% dark chocolate every day.
I had to really go fast tonight but the lifting went well.

My sinuses have almost completely cleared so breathing was much better today and for lifting. I felt supercharged with oxygen.
It looks like you got the diet nailed, it has certainly paid strength dividends.
Thanks Jack. I have been a walking diet experiment and the current protocol works well but I have much to learn so refining the diet will continue. I have used the above diet for many years with success with little altering. I am trying to add lecithin granules now for the phosphatidic acid and dietary goodness. It’s all fun.
Glad the hamstring is feeling better. Looks like your bench is moving up nicely.
