Born in Hong Kong, started out on the Lower East Side @ 7 yrs old, then Brooklyn, then assorted areas all around the Village.
Went to school at Stuyvesant High (old location on 15th st.), knew plenty of kids from Queens; still have a good buddy that lives in Forest Hills area (the modest part lol).
the fact that you can’t watch a single show, or movie without some type of profeminist, anti-traditional women angle or message injected throughout. It is madness.
I decided to watch that show on Netflix, The Witcher (don’t ask me why, it’s such a silly fucking show but I’m going through GOT withdrawals) and there’s characters on there, women, that scream and talk like men, wield swords and drink beer with blood all over their face while spitting dialogue about toxic “Male traditions” and bleh bleh bleh.
What’s sad about this is the fact that these idiots aren’t portraying ‘strong women’, they’re simply injecting females into traditional male roles while spitting out nonsense about the patriarchy.
I keep asking myself “do women really like this? are they relating to these characters?” and if not, if only men are watching these types of shows then why have it at all? are they trying to subconsciously manipulate male thought or something? I’m really confused by this stuff
This is funny to me because I actually tend to agree with you on the Hollywood part. I don’t necessarily agree women are being injected into traditional male roles, but every show does seem to have to have a strong feminist women and at least one gay couple.
But then you use just an awful example, lol. The queen (Calanthe) with the blood on her face has been around in The Witcher books for 30 years. The plot line where the daughter is given to a fucking porcupine via the law of surprise (tradition) is a direct adaptation from the books.
You could have used Batwoman with Ruby Rose. The CW is releasing a spinoff from Arrow with all women for christsakes, lol.
You married a foreigner? Well, love knows no borders.
Anyway, having been to Italy, I can tell you that Italian women on average aren’t any fatter than American women.
Louder, absolutely, but not heavier.
Yeah I figured the character had to somewhat be accurate right? but look at the casting. It’s a rail thin woman. I hate when they do that. Brienne of Tarth was believable, this woman is not. And I get the argument that this is ‘fantasy’ but it only works if it is somewhat logical, unless women love this? if many females come out and say “no I love this, I can pretend a skinny girl like me can wield a sword like this and kill dudes” then ya know there’s nothing I can say…
but yeah the rest of those shows I’ll never watch, and the feminist push and gay couple push is becoming overbearing. It feels forced, so it never comes off well.
I watched that show Sense 8 on Netflix, I mean, despite all the craziness and silliness of that show it comes off as somewhat believable, sincere, and genuine, not forced.
I know Mexico is about to or has caught up? China is getting more obese, so are some middle eastern countries that do not yet understand what fast food can do to you.
I’ve been in parts of the world where I hadn’t seen 1 fat person. Not even obese, just fat, in general, not 1.
how accurate is that though? I’m looking at the list and there’s some countries I haven’t even heard of, a long with the middle eastern countries I have heard of that I knew were getting huge… but are these real obese people or just obese by the calculation? you know what I mean, do they have those fuckers that we have here that are just like my god man.
Are you sure? only 6% Obesity. The rich might be obese, but there are huge swathes of poverty still.
yeah maybe that’s what I read, the middle to upper middle class was starting to get fat in china. It’s different when you kinda think about it, like Tonga is something like 100 thousand people… so what are they really? kinda like Samoans? For some reason I don’t see them as “fat”, like American fat, get what I’m saying? that perceived ‘fat’
edit: guess what I’m saying is that Samoans can still be athletic while being high body fat, like a powerlifter or something where as “American fat” is just sloppy fat fucks.
I think you mean this is the cut off line for ‘obese’, where in america there is a significant slice that take it far past that line, beyond even morbidly obese?
If so I think your right and there are probably more morbidly obese, and whales in the US than some of the others.
Its as accurate as it claims to be. Its just statistics about ‘obesity’. Its not saying anything about distributions within the obese or non obese.
Im not sure why this would suggest inaccuracy. There are over a hundred and fifty countries I believe, and I couldnt name more than 50 with a gun to my head i suspect.
I get what you’re trying to say, but I don’t think perception vs reality is the issue, or what you mean. I see 100,000 fat people i still think of them as fat, I dont ignore the data point just because its not 1,000,000.
I suspect this is probably right. Draw lines around an area thats relatively poor, but not so poor as to encapsulate areas of poverty, and you could probably beat the statistic.
But now its a case of perception vs reality. Just because one lives in a town where they see a lot of obesity (perception) doesn’t mean a whole nation is obese (reality).
Hahaha, no, I married a guy who’s grandparents came over from Italy. His family feasts. They also love their sweets. The first year he and I were together I put on 10 pounds while he dropped the same. More steamed rice and veggies for him, more appetizers and desserts for me.
We binged our way through Ray Donovan over the holidays, and although there was a strong woman who was also gay (Lena), it’s made clear that she has anger issues that disrupt her life. There is also race and sexuality stuff, but this is a testosterone-fueled show, and so struggles with these things are also shown. Nothing feminized about it that I can tell. So then I get back to…who cares if Lena (who’s beautiful) has a mannish aspect and is willing to kill? Who’s being disadvantaged?
A thing to bear in mind when looking at negative stats and “America” is that there are huge disparities based on race and socio-economic status. I can’t recall the exact numbers, but the life expectancies and infant mortality rates of white and black people are entirely different. Societies where things are homogenous tend to do better on these international measures of health.
Ah, covered already.
I started to read the article yesterday, but wow, it’s long. I had my usual reaction to what I read though - I can’t dispute that the issues are THERE, but I don’t see them as being as broad or as problematic as the author does. But I’ll try to find time later. If nothing else, there are two football games on Sunday in which I have no interest!
