Hang Clean Pulls vs Power Shrugs

I’m familiar with the HCP but I’m not too familiar with the power shrug. I checked it out on youtube but people there seem to have all sorts of variations so I’m not sure which one is the original one.

Is a power shrug just a HCP with a hang position closer to the hips as oppose to the knees?

WTF is a ‘power shrug’? And why would you do it?!

It would indicate a shrug from the hang position?

Maybe a shrug from the 2nd pull position?

Power Shrugs is the Hang Clean Pulls ugly cousin.

Well said.

A power shrug uses hip drive to allow you to shrug more weight. The purpose is to work the upper traps. Bodybuilders use it.

A clean pull (from the floor or the hang) is part of an Olympic lift. As far as I know it’s more of a training tool for learning the full lift. It involves triple extension while shrugging.

The two lifts should not be compared because they do not have the same purpose.

There is ‘no triple’ extension…

There is only a double knee bend for when you do the 1st to 2nd pull transition.

Cheers for clarifying th is trj-dk

So what your saying wfifer is that theres no difference if you do the ‘power shrug’ from the hang as oppose to the ‘clean pull from the hang’. The only ‘difference’ is the emphasis on more of the hips from the hang clean pull as oppose to the power shrug. It’s more commonly used to make your 2nd pull stronger as an assistance.

Thanks for the clarification all. I was thinking WTF too when I first heard about power shrugs.
