I finally took the plunge and had the surgery on Friday. It was a lot more painful than I expected, and I have had other surgeries before. If anyone has any questions I’d be more than willing to answer. I also was wondering how any others dealt with this surgery, how long did it take to recover, lift, etc. Thanks
Congratulations, man :). I’m thinking about eventually getting the surgery when I have the money.
I guess different people have different experiences with the surgery, but here are a few questions I have:
How long did is it going to take until you’re allowed to lift/exercise again [if your surgeon gave you a suggestion]?
How long do you have to wear your compression vest [if you have to wear one]?
How long did you have to stay at the place you got your surgery?
Also, if you want other stories and somewhere to ask questions:

Good luck with recovery

It was a huge decision but I just decided to get it over with. I meet with my surgeon a week after the surgery and we will discuss when I can lift again, but he seems to think I might be able to go start light lifting in the 2nd week, depending on how I feel. I only had to wear my compression vest for 24 hrs, which was great cause I hate wearing it. I will probably wear it for a couple nights to help the swelling and bruising though. Unfortunately I didn’t react well to the anesthesia for some reason; which is odd because I never had a problem before. So I got to the hospital at 6:30am and didn’t leave until 6:30pm, I was puking as they rolled me out in a wheelchair! The day of surgery was very unpleasant, I felt quite nauseous and was in a good deal of pain. Today is day 3 and I am starting to feel better though I still have some serious black and blue marks which suck
Thanks for the answers, I appreciate it.
Hopefully I have your luck and I’m not required to wear that vest for more than a week.
I think the time you have to wear the vest varies due to doctors preference and how severe your case is
Is it for “natural” gyno or roid induced?
(no hating, just curious)
No offense taken, I had pubertal gyno when I was younger and unless I was extremely thin it would be noticeable and really took a toll on my confidence. I never knew that this condition existed until I got older, by that time I had used AAS and yes it did make it worse, but that was partly my fault.
Obviously the fact that I had gyno before AAS explains why I was so sensitive to estrogen related side effects. So to answer your question it was a bit of both, I have had it since about 14 or 15 and it got a bit worse after AAS but either way I would have wanted the surgery.
I find it so strange how people’s bodies react differently throughout pubescent years. With fat storage too.
All my siblings are naturally lean and skinny, yet when i grew up i was the strong pudgy kid(not fat by any means. just subcutaneous)
Yeah I was hoping that maybe as I got older it would start to slowly dissipate but it’s just how you mentioned everyone reacts differently. Some people are lucky enough to have to get away naturally while others get stuck with it.
Do you have presurgery pics and then immediately post surgery. Also, if you don’t mind answering, what did it run you? I was quoted around $9k. Location, location, location…
Honestly I don’t have any before pictures because I hated it so much but my case still wasn’t even that severe. Any pic right now won’t be too appealing, the scars are very visible and I am still pretty black and blue. The cost of my surgery all together was $6,000
Thanks a lot for posting this John. I like to hear about others’ experience with the surgery. I am meeting with a doc next week and will be having the surgery 8 weeks after that. I was told mine will cost $5000-$6000 (I’m in Canada), but I think I’m willing to pay anything at this point.
Keep us posted, and best of luck with recovery.

Yeah man no problem, this is an odd issue and people don’t generally discuss it openly. I put the surgery off for a while and I was mad at myself for doing it. I met with a surgeon about a year ago and decided not to get it done. For the past year I was kicking myself for not doing it, so I knew that it was a problem I needed to face. It’s almost been a week and I meet with my surgeon this afternoon. Still have some swelling, the right side is much worse for some reason (still some black and blue, soreness). I hope to be doing some light leg work in a couple of days because I’m going stir crazy!
Well that wasn’t fun, just had my first consult 6 days after surgery…The right side had some swelling so he had to draw blood from it which was not pleasant…Told me that if the right side had healed like the left I would be able to start some light upper body stuff…but it hasn’t.
He did say I could start legs though, so I was happy about that. I have to go back next week to get more blood drawn but he seems to think in a month I’ll start looking how I wanted to
I could do push ups by 6pm the day I had surgery. I had surgery at ~8am.

I suppose it depends on how much gland was removed in your surgery. Did you have a lot removed?
I had both glands removed and lipo done in the area, if I recall DOHCrazy you only had one removed correct? Plus everyone reacts differently, had the right side not been so filled with blood the doc said I could have started upper body workouts
Has anyone on here that had Gyno surgery gotten a hematoma? I had a ton of blood drained from it thursday and will have more drained next week but I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on how to maybe help this recover a bit faster?

I don’t have any advice of my own, but I’m sure if you asked or did a search on the forum link I posted earlier [the gyno site] you would get an answer. They have actual surgeons that post there occasionally as well.
Sorry to hear about the complication.
