Haha, I’m not sure, thats why I spent time trying to describe it rather than giving a name for it.
Dude, I’m just sharing. I never tried this exercise for, and that was my experience.
Have you ever watched them perform? They skill and size is nothing short of outstanding. Base this on the fact that they rarely, if ever touch the weights.

Hey T-Men and T-Vixens,
I was recently watching Fit Tv, and saw a special on training for gymnastics.
It suprises me how strong, coordinated, and muscular these people are.
Anyway, there was a segment on their weight training. A particular exercise they used, looked like a straight arm fly. Basically you were lying down, in dumbell press position. With a overhand grip, and straight arms, you would lower the dumbell straight to your sides and bring it back up.
I tried this yesterday and had a strong pump in my biceps and shoulders. This Exercise + their straight arm ring work, make me believe this is what causes their development in biceps and shoulders.
Just thought I would like to share.
First it sounds like you are describing what is basicly a dumbell front raise while lying on a bench? (just for clarification)
Second you think one exercise has a significant influance on their biceps and shoulders compared to the hundreds of hours they have spent flinging their own body weight around?
Also why are you suprised with their strength/cordination/muscularity? No matter the specific discipline I think its plane to see all three of those are prerequisites to be a half decent gymnast.
