Guys Obsessed w/ Training Chest?

I like bench press because it’s fun and I’m relatively good at it. It builds you tri’s chest and shoulders so it’s a cool exercise. People notice a big chest so if you’re only gonna do one exercise, its not the worst.
It might not be the worst, but it certainly gets close to be dude. Nothing screams like “fuck shoulders 4 life” like bench pressing without ever doing any form of “pulling”.

thats ok because it leaves the squat racks open 24/7

what gym do you workout at? Most of the time…

Fast forward a decade after our first jelqing gyms, and we’ll see “Planet Penis”.

Where small penises can come to flop around without feeling intimidated. And if any of those big penises come in and started making wet slapping noises while they jelq, they will ring the “Junk Alarm” and kick them out.
The scary part is imagining penis size getting smaller and jelqing lifters worrying increasingly more about penis shape rather than size.

{quote]Because of the infamous question “how much ya bench” when that question should be “what do you deadlift”

90% of people in the gym know the basics,

bench, curl, pushdowns, pull ups and leg press.

people dont know what deadlifts or rackpulls are.

people donw know what a closegrip bench is or ANY hamstring exercises either.
Ask people what they deadlift and you get a blank stare.

Ask people how much they squat and you get a bullshit answer about what they did back in high school immediately followed “…but I hurt my knees/back/penis so I don’t do them anymore.”

Ask people what they overhead press and they usually point to a pair of dumbbells between 15 to 40 pounds and say, “Yeah!”

Bench press? We know that one down to the OUNCE, baby.

Anybody ever have anybody follow you, exercise for exercise, around the gym…every time you’re in there? That shit creeps me out.

Oh yeah there would of course be newbz suffering from information overload from some flashy jelqing website (P-Nation), and you see them in there doing double helix milking exercises, and trying to use weights already to stretch their newb dicks.

It’s like facepalm go back to the basics guys.

I agree with all those posting who say that guys probably do this “for the ladies”, but actually I got an issue of Men’s Health the other month, and in it was results from a survey of women asking them what body part they found most attractive / noticed. I don’t recall exactly, but I think forearms, shoulders, abs (not ripped, but not fat), and butt were really high on the list, and chest/biceps lower down.

Maybe all the guys doing curls should lose the beer bellies and start doing walking lunges / bulgarian split squats. If you don’t like the way your chest looks, just make sure you’re facing away when you disrobe so she sees a great V shape from your shoulders to your waist and good glutes/hamstrings in those boxer briefs.

Since when can women be trusted to give an honest answer about their personal views, opinions, or desires?

The bodypart women typically notice first is your face, along with your general body shape/size. After that its usually shoulders, then if they like you their mind wanders towards the crotch area and the torso/arms.

LOL bro that was rough, the P-nation thing almost made me fall from my chair. But you get the point 100%.

I wouldn’t trust them either. They say that being nice is the key, but when I tried that I felt that I harrassed them. The only thing I’ve noticed is that when I loose bodyfat and become even more egocentric and the less I notice and think about women the more they approach to me.

It’s face first, then body (when the individual is facing you). Has always been and is true for both genders.

When I first joined the gym, I had no idea.

I learnt exercises from watching other people, and of course everyone benches and curls, so I benched and I curled. I then wandered around from machine to machine, since they were fun to use without any real goal in mind.

This was only for a few weeks before I got on the internet and found a website with a training program, although a pretty crappy one, but it had squats and deadlifts in it.

The first thing most guys notice is chest and arms on another guy, so naturally they want bigger ones themselves and train them.

But really, 95% of people in my gym just do what the majority is doing because they just don’t know any better.

most people will walk in, do a total body session, do some cardio and leave.

somewhere along the lines the ones who give a shit will pick up a Mens Health or M&F or Flex magazine at Walgreens or something and start to learn a few new exercises.

maybe next theyll go to that magazine’s website and after looking at the pictures they may stumble into a forum

maybe from that forum theyll lurk around a couple nights a week, maybe more, eventually they may even find their way here

and then they might learn something and become one of us or maybe Professor X will make them cry and banish them to the V-Diet purgatory forever.
I know someone who got a much quicker route to t-natio than the one you described which will no doubt make you happy.

Somewhat out of shape guy in my gym asked a pretty big guy if he could train with him and get some ideas, so the other guy being extremely nice, got him doing some exercises and took him through the basics. Told him to eat right and rest well, then left.

The out-of-shape guy looked a bit confused and asked me what the guy meant about food and rest so I gave him a 2 minute quick run through of how important diet is, then referred him to T-Nation. He had a big smile on his face and promised to visit the forums.

I feel I’ve done my bit in the world; if I die now, I’ll die content.

The Monday is chest day is obligatory in my gym. The part they don’t bother to sit and think about is forced reps on flat, incline, decline and several angled Hammer strength type stuff. They polish it off with cable crossovers. These guys will do pulldowns and throw in 2-4 sets of seated rows on back day and wonder why their shoulder hurts.

wel the way i lok at it, not everyone is looking to get bigger, my dad works out with circut training at home and does the same thing 5-6 days in a row, he dont do it to get biger or nothing, he just does it to stay healthy. i think thats why some people do it. they know it and it makes them happy, and it keeps them healthy

I’ve always liked shoulders because I think moving shit overhead is cool. Makes me think of cavemen lifting heavy rocks to prove who could lift the heaviest.

i try to explain stuff to people but i feel like they dont want to listen. and this is usually from people who ASK ME.

ive have 3 different people ask to workout with me in the last month or two and none of them made it past one workout, actually one kid did two. but everyone for one reason or another stopped, so fuck em. i dont even want to give people advice anymore, its just a nusiance more than anything. dont care if youre doing deadlifts wrong and are gonna break you back, dont care if youre on a deca only cycle. all i need from anyone at the gym is to spot me, and do it right, probaly the only thing ill lecture one cause theres like 1 person who knows how to spot me at my gym, and i will walk to the other side of the gym even if theres 50 people closer.

Very true, which is why I train legs on Mondays. A while back I trained at my former gym for a change of pace. It was on a Monday evening and full of the benchpress/curl crowd. The equipment had been moved around and the squat rack was now right next to the dumbell racks. The whole area was full of guys doing db benches and curls (in front of the mirrors of course). I proceeded to do my squats and by the time I’d reached 405 lbs. there wasn’t a single guy in that corner of the gym. Guess they all just finished at once. I still laugh when I think about that.

I learned this a few years ago when I was in the AF. It’s magnified more in the civilian world it seems. In the military people actually NEED to be in shape. There’s a different motivation when your life depends on it when it comes to asking for advice and actually taking heed.

Since I’ve moved back to Mass and started living a civilian life again, people in the gym have approached me for advice on diet and training. I think one guy has listened. To me that’s an accomplishment.

When it comes to a decent spotter, I started by asking the people who could move some weight and giving them a trail lift. If they failed (i.e. touching the bar against my instructions) I never ask them again if they ask me if I need one. I tell them no and ask someone I KNOW can give me a good spot.

I learned in the AF, when someone asks to workout with me, to make it as difficult for them as possible. I was sick of people saying they wanted to look like me wasting my fucking time, so I began wasting theirs. I know you’re saying, “what an asshole”, just listen. I wouldn’t murder them with some insane squat day, but I wouldn’t lighten up either. If they wanted to workout with me, they could, but I refused to let them hold me back. So I started telling them to meet me at the ass-crack of dawn at the gym. Do that for 2 weeks and if they didn’t miss one then looks like they were here to stay. No one ever made it the try-out. People want to look great and be strong, but they don’t have the balls to do it. That’s what separates the men from the brahs.
