I am a big Hendrix, Clapton, Van Halen and Jimmy Page fan…
but lately I have been blown away by the accuracy of Paul Gilbert.
esp his song Technical Difficulties. dont know how to post the vid.
Let’s be honest… Prince, while admittedly a production and song writing genius (IMO), a shoe-in in the RnR Hall of Fame (or some Hall of Fame), a major musical influence of mine, and an accomplished musician on several instruments, he is not an extraordinary guitar player.
Oh, he’s good, and he can jam, and he can faux masturbate his axe, and perhaps there’s no midget sexier than him with a guitar (OK, that was homo), but he’s not near the same level as a Jimi Hendrix, or an Eddie VH, or an SRV, or a John Petrucci for that matter.
being amazing is someone who is just fucking great, I mean, almost untouchable in his style in that time, can we agree on that?
Then Django Reinhardt was amazing. Jeff Beck is amazing.
Someone like John Petrucci ain’t.

You’re a sad little man
Spoken like someone who isn’t an accomplished musician at all.
That about right?

I don’t need to go into my background in music to prove anything to you. It’s just sad and childish when someone feels the need to insult another persons taste in music. You’re just disrespecting people for who the hell knows why. Sad.

proof of your musical accomplishments?
Well, I’m an accomplished drummer who gets hired to do gigs in the realm of funk, jazz, rock, folk music etc., and also get studio calls, however, this is in Norway, so you won’t have heard about the kind of people I get to play with anyway. Plus, this ain’t about me, I was merely pointing out that reading about who you some of you find amazing, is funny to me.

What? Disrespecting people? If you were to ask mr. Petrucci himself if he was in the same league as Django, he would simply laugh and say no.
Note that John Petrucci is a fine prog guitarist, a very good one, but he’s just not in the same league as someone as Django.

You know how you guys feel when people who know nothing about working out talk about how jacked Brad Pitt was in fight club?
As a musician, I get that exact same feeling reading who you think are “amazing”.
You’re pretty fucking ridiculous. There’s a difference between saying Brad Pitt is jacked, something that can clearly be measured and quantified, and saying that such-and-such a guitarist is amazing as that’s purely based on personal opinion.
Somebody might not like jazz, so to him, Django might not be all that amazing.
and for classical guitar, which I wanted to play but nooooooo I learned cello, here is Italian guitarist Alberto Mesirca playing Introduzionne & Capriccio, composed by Giulio Regondi

I don’t like jazz, I like the blues, I do not like jazz.
