J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr.
The solo at the end of “Feel The Pain” is what has me sold.
Anyone else you can think of?

Spending the last few years in the Mississippi delta I’m surprised Robert Johnson never gets a mention in “great guitarist” conversations.
Stanley Yates
(classical guitar)
I’d never listened to Dinosaur Jr before today, so thanks for that. Great stuff.
^that dude is a total badass.

I bought “Ah Via Musicom” back in '92-93 and play the crap out of it. Great CD.

Indeed.
Might as well throw Jerry Cantrel in the mix too.

Yes. And, i’d say Kim Thayil from Soundgarden.
Rick Emmett - Triumph
Daniele Gottardo
I actually really dug Cantrell’s first solo disc. Still,… not sure I’d want to go see the ‘new’ Alice in Chains (they were one of my favorites).
I always liked Mick Mars. I know, I know,… 80’s cheese, but I still played my guitar back in the 80’s. and Mick wrote some killer riffs

I liked a few songs on Cantrell’s solo first solo cd, but they were just a bit too devoid of any energy. I don’t really find him underrated as a guitarist though; he’s just not that outstanding really.
I’m moderately excited for some new AiC as long as they get a singer with some pipes like the late Layne Staley.

Jorn Viggo Lofstad - guitar player from Pagan’s Mind
Mats Haugen - guitar player from Circus Maximus
Marco Sfogli - guitar player from James Labrie’s “Elements of Persuasion” album
Thomas Youngblood - guitar player from Kamelot
Johan Liefvendahl - guitar player from Seventh Wonder
Tom MacLean - guitar player from To-mera
Bill Peck - guitar player from Exit the Ride
Marshal Dutton - guitar player from Faktion
Are they the guitar players from a bunch of death/black/Scandinavian/whatever other kind of metal bands?
Do they actually stand out in addition to be technically proficient? I’m getting pretty sick and tired of guitarist that can shred but can’t infuse their playing with any kind of emotion. It gets really boring really quickly.
