The news this morning said the person was stabbed 50-60 times??? Then he sawed the kids head off. WTF!
I don’t understand how the people on this bus just stood by and watched, I realize there is some time for “holy crap what’s going on?” but butcher knife or not they could have taken this guy down.
-Victim was only 5-4 130lbs.
-Killer was described as a pretty big guy who was wearing his sunglasses in the middle of the night on a bus (red flag)
-Killer apparently ate some of his flesh after he carved him up
Then the calm of an otherwise unremarkable bus ride was shattered by a sound so chilling it could only be described as somewhere between a dog howling and a baby crying.’
‘It was a blood-curdling scream,’ he said. ‘I turned around and the guy sitting right [behind] me was standing up and stabbing another guy with a big Rambo knife, Right in the throat. Repeatedly.’
The police only charged him with second-degree murder though.

Apparently everyone ran out/puked or passed out when the screaming started. Then the driver, a highway patrolman and one passenger went into see if they could maybe tie him till the cops came.
They got back in the bus and the guy was beheading the victim. He saw them and ran towards them, so they ran out n blocked the doorway.
which is when he dropped the head infront of them and tried to escape through a window.
Totally random & apparently unprovoked - such a sad state of the world we live in.
No doubt the guy was mentally disturbed to do this. “Hhhhmmm - I’m gonna ride this bus through rural central Canada & when the moment is right I’m gonna repeatedly stab an innocent victim physically smaller than me with a large hunting knife, then go to town on his body, THEN behead him before I get arrested/subdued.”
If I read the report correctly the victim was sleeping at the time of the attack. Just sick.
The police only charged him with second-degree murder though.

Here’s part of the problem. I’d say the guy fully intended to kill the victim, so why is he only being charged with 2nd degree murder? Is the law that different compared to the U.S.?
^^TOMMYboy:
for 1st degree you need actus-reus (actual action) and mens-rea (mental capacity). If the mens-rea aspect is not complete (since they did not know each other), only manuslaughter charges can be made.
(They apparently had an argument before the guy went to sleep.)
Also, if he’s mentally unstable, they cannot try him for 1st degree, since he is judged to lack the metal capacity to properly judge the situation and the consequences of his actions.
how are they going to rehabilitate this guy? He is never going to be a productive member of society

I am convinced that there are some people who are what they are; no form of rehabilitation will ever change them. It’s like training a tiger; they may do what you want, but they will always be a tiger and will kill you if you’re not careful.
To quote one of my favorite movies (and books):
As a child, my heart bleeds for him. Someone took a little boy and turned him into a monster. But as an adult… as an adult, he’s irredeemable. He butchers whole families to fulfill some sick fantasy. As an adult, I think someone should blow the sick fuck out of his socks.

Thanks for the clarification but I say that since the guy tried to escape, it shows that he had the reasoning to know that he did wrong and thus should face 1st degree murder charges.
