Kansas City Chiefs linebacker, Jovan Belcher kills girlfriend, takes own life

It’s a shame.

A spineless coward. Not much more to really say.

Sports radio is already playing up the concussion angle.

That was the first thing that came to mind when I heard about the story.

How many times do other murder suicides get emotionally nauseating “In Memorial” pages immediately after the crime. That girl’s body’s not even cold yet.

Fucking athlete worship.

Saw this, just crazy. Woke up at 3:30ish (I work graveyard, dammit,) and my dad dropped this shit on me. Was very confused.

What’s very interesting is Belcher is my back-up mike linebacker in my Madden franchise. What to do… what to do… ?

Amazing isn’t it?

Wait…are you talking about this thread?

Why is this thread entitled ‘Jovan Belcher… commits suicide,’ rather than ‘Jovan Belcher murders a 22 year old girl; eats bullet before being arrested?’

I mean, yeah, it’s in the story, but the thread title kind of bypasses the meat of the story.

What if she had it coming?

Then the title should be, “Jovan Belcher murders 22 year old girl who had it coming; eats bullet before being arrested.”

You have a very pertinent point.

Mods!

The NFL will do anything for ratings.

For the record, no. The sappy smiling pictures that were on the Yahoo Sports news link that I clicked when I first read the article, along with 1984 or whenever it was -2012. It was in pretty poor taste, to say the least. His girlfriend got no such page.

Just noticed the title of this thread, though. It is a murder first. His suicide should be incidental, following that.

The first thing I thought was she must have been cheating on him and maybe the baby isn’t even his. Don’t anyone think by this statement I think she had it coming, that’s just me trying to make sense of it. A heat of the moment fight of a lesser nature and we would have heard he struck her and she died died from the blow or falling and hitting her head. In this case he went and grabbed a gun and shot her multiple times. That’s more than a heated fight. I wonder if we will ever find out.

Actually there is quite a bit more to say…

It’s a person who clearly had severe mental issues that required immediate and intensive professional help.

Snap labeling people (i.e. “spineless coward”) is not only incorrect but is senseless and based in no substantive fact whatsoever.

This is a person who is not(and cannot possibly be) thinking rationally. He has no sense of “spine” or “coward”. For him it was probably the only conceivable recourse.

Psychological problems of such nature are extremely complex. Dismissing them with labels is foolish at best and solves nothing in the end.

So he’s not guilty of murdering his girlfriend and it wasn’t his fault, right?

Cortes right, the guy murdered somebody, end of story really.
