I disagree. If there was a pitcher in the major leagues that was claiming a 130 mph fastball, you know people would be talking shit about it him too. Same thing would happen if some guy in the NBA was claiming he can dunk from the 3 point line. They’d be demanding evidence too. You can’t claim to do the world record deadlifts for reps and not have people talk shit about it.
We’ve all known someone who grossly exaggerates for no reason and just makes shit up. He just happens to be one of those people. Simple as that.
This thread proves the guy knows how to draw attention.
Winner: Max Charles
The guy looks damn good for sure. I could care less about his lift claims. Whatever he is doing is working. Although I am about 20 pounds over 300 in the off season. Obviously not to his level, but I do half of the weight he claims and I think I am relatively strong.

What makes you think everyone is as immersed in the world of powerlifting and bodybuilding terminology as you are?
This guy taught himself, trained himself, prepped himself for a show, does partial-range-of-motion-everything based entirely on how he alone feels, and devised an extremely unusual (although obviously effective) workout routine and diet.
What makes you think this guy has ever had a REASON to know what a rack pull is?
If you asked him about preacher curls, you would be thinking of textbook form preacher curls all the way up and all the way down… Max Charles would think of the 5 inch range of motion preacher curls that he has always done.
That does not make him a LIAR.
It makes you a nerd trying to hold everyone to an arbitrary standard of comparison.
I’m glad that we have both seen only 2 videos of this guy, and with 20 mins of insight into his life you now exactly how he thinks and operates as well as trains. You are very skilled, sir.
I can front squat 600 lbs. Call me out on it and you’re a nerd.

The guy believes 100% in PARTIAL RANGE OF MOTION lifting. He said he had 10 plates a side, and then hung two in the middle from a chain… Imagine how that would work pulling from the floor…
Obviously he was doing some kind of rack pull, and knowing him it wasn’t more than 5-10 inches of ROM. The guy is Haitian too, and you can clearly hear in the interview that there are some language barriers.
Some of you are pretty stupid sometimes, you know that?
This is retarded. I didn’t even know what a “rack pull” is. I had never even heard the term before maybe a year ago on this website because I don’t hear anyone else using that term in gyms I’ve trained at. Why? Because I don’t power lift or follow powerlifting at all or care to know what that term means. I looked it up on youtube and before now would have called that a deadlift as well only in a power cage.
This guy is a foreigner who doesn’t even speak English clearly and you are being this strict with a game of semantics.
It’s good to know you care this much about the man’s speech.
Not my fault he’s been in the US for over 20 years, still isn’t a US citizen and can’t speak english well.
As if being able to articulate your thoughts is not valued in society, HAH!
P.S. Consider this a social experiment X. See, you’ve never jumped to the defense of a white bodybuilder (I mean, ever lol), so I wanted to see if you would be all about defending Max Charles even given his ridiculous claims. Rest assured when a white BBer pops up that claims some things in the same way Max does (ridiculous lifts, no proof) I’ll be looking for you to defend him just the same ![]()

Haha, the only reason arguments exist is because one person is not getting the other person’s point. YOU DONT GET MINE I DONT GET YOURS, DONT HATE BRAH!
(ID please make a new avatar for Prof X with a beret on his head Black Panther style, thanks.)
About two minutes before he says he deadlifts 1000lbs he states that he only uses a ROM that allows him to feel the targeted muscle working, and that he almost always uses partial reps. And then people are dumb enough to think he meant a full rom deadlift?
And further to that he states that he was training back with that deadlift, ie not concerned about his grip or hams, glutes, etc getting involved. You have to be willfully misinterpreting the entire interview to believe he really meant a full rom dead.
He doesn’t bring the bar right now to his chest when doing lat pulldowns, anyone going to rip on him for that too?
we’ve seen this stuff time and time again. there ARE standards across the board for lifts like squats, deads, bench press and overhead pressing. everyone knows what they are but many will argue otherwise just to be difficult. full ROM is expected and when it’s not there it’s obviously to everyone.
i can’t believe these debats go on forever. it’s either full ROM or a partial lift regardless of what you are doing it for.

But you’re a PLer MM, so if you claim a lift it has to be full ROM and be backed up with video evidence. If you were a BBer you could claim whatever you wanted and need no evidence, duh!
i think an easy rule of thumb is - if you have to defend your lift as actually being what you say it is, then it’s really not what you think it is:)

Do you go around your gym telling people they didn’t lift to powerlifting guidelines, and that they suck? He’s not competing, so stop getting so annoyed that he’s bigger and stronger than you and accept that he was talking about a partial rom. And you ignored my point about the lat pulldown, probably because you can’t argue against it.

Bro, it’s not even that big a deal. Just accept that this guy is full of shit and move on. Partial Lat Pulldown? Who cares, but when you claim bigger lifts than people who actually have them when you clearly don’t is a slap in the face to those who accomplished them. This dudes dumb, we even have an eye witness in here who trains at the same gym as Max and says he hasn’t lifted remotely close to anything he’s claimed.
Anyone in here defending him is dumb, this has nothing to do with the physique he has, it has everything to do with the lies he says. I’m not going to lose sleep over something I know he can’t do, but what annoys me is a few of you defending someone who is clearly lying and calling other people retarded, jokes on you.

‘Hey bonez, what do you do for chest?’
“I do 4 sets of deadlift for pre-exhaust, then I go over to the dumbell rack and do 4 sets of deadlifts ramped, then I go to the cable station and do 3 sets of deadlifts as a finisher. Sometimes I super set deadlifts with deadlifts to get teh pec pump on”

I’m retarded? I’m not applying powerlifting rulings to gym lifts. And I really doubt Andy Bolton is as butthurt about this guys lifts as you and waylander have been. if anyone is at fault here its probably Palumbo for not asking what sort of rom was involved, but maybe he’s smart enough to understand that when a guy says he uses partial rom on ALL HIS LIFTS he probably means his deadlift too.
