he must be myostatin gene doping, there’s no way he can recover from 20 sets per body part by eating one bowl of rice and beans a day wtf…

What makes you think everyone is as immersed in the world of powerlifting and bodybuilding terminology as you are?
This guy taught himself, trained himself, prepped himself for a show, does partial-range-of-motion-everything based entirely on how he alone feels, and devised an extremely unusual (although obviously effective) workout routine and diet.
What makes you think this guy has ever had a REASON to know what a rack pull is?
If you asked him about preacher curls, you would be thinking of textbook form preacher curls all the way up and all the way down… Max Charles would think of the 5 inch range of motion preacher curls that he has always done.
That does not make him a LIAR.
It makes you a nerd trying to hold everyone to an arbitrary standard of comparison.

I get the impression that you all think he meant he was deadlifting 1000lbs with a full range of motion, from the floor to lockout, which is mind-blowingly retarded if you’ve watched any of his videos.
The guy believes 100% in PARTIAL RANGE OF MOTION lifting. He said he had 10 plates a side, and then hung two in the middle from a chain… Imagine how that would work pulling from the floor…
Obviously he was doing some kind of rack pull, and knowing him it wasn’t more than 5-10 inches of ROM. The guy is Haitian too, and you can clearly hear in the interview that there are some language barriers.
Some of you are pretty stupid sometimes, you know that?[/quote]

This is retarded. I didn’t even know what a “rack pull” is. I had never even heard the term before maybe a year ago on this website because I don’t hear anyone else using that term in gyms I’ve trained at. Why? Because I don’t power lift or follow powerlifting at all or care to know what that term means. I looked it up on youtube and before now would have called that a deadlift as well only in a power cage.
This guy is a foreigner who doesn’t even speak English clearly and you are being this strict with a game of semantics.
It’s good to know you care this much about the man’s speech.

Pull is just coolkid slang for deadlift. So a rack pull would be a deadlift in the rack, only in coolkid slang. I doubt this guy talks in coolkid slang, but it’s still misleading.

In about 15 years I had never heard that term in any gym…but now it is supposedly so well known that even people not from here should know it. How can it be misleading if it isn’t even common knowledge that there is a difference?
Everyone into bodybuilding knows what a preacher bench is. Everyone does not know what a “rack pull” is.
This guy uses mostly partial reps from what I’ve seen so no, it makes little sense to act like he is being judged by a powerlifting crew when he talks about any lift that he does.
I see that often here though, people using powerlifting guidelines to explain bodybuilding lifts as if the latter isn’t legit even though the guy using that technique may be the biggest fucker in the gym.
Most big bodybuilders don’t give a shit about “textbook lifts”.
I could give a shit less what he deadlifts or preacher curls, but I sure wish he’d bring his legs up. It’d be awesome.

You watched those Max Charles videos and this is what you think of?
Honestly, what is up with some of you?
That video on the “other site” is impressive as hell. We have some negative jackasses on this site.
Lol at the deadlift and curl claims
FOR what its worth Max Charles trains in the same gym I do, Bev’s Powerhouse Gym. He is a tank and always covers up in very baggy clothes. I have never seen him lift any free weights heavy. Heavy may be a relative term but for the weights he claims on the videos he doesn’t match up to the standard in the gym from what I witnessed. Seen him go moderately heavy on some machines but in my 2 years of lifting at powerhouse I have never seen him perform any amazing feat of strength. I am not attached to his side though so there really still is no telling if he is being honest or not. Up in the air but doubtful. At the same time, he competes in bodybuilding not power-lifting so his physique does the talking anyway, not his deadlif or “supposed” deadlift.
shawn105, I agree with you. Whether or not he lifts what he claims, his physique is awe-inspiring and as a bodybuilder is doing what he believes is successful for him. I think all the negativity comes from the him not being the conventional lifter.
the guy straight up lies in the middle of the video, he distinctly says: “I never look at myself in the mirror”, I mean, is it just me, or is he not walking around shirtless and flexing constantly (first vid)
I wouldnt be half surprised if he said all of that just to get a rise out of his fellow BBers and maybe get a psychological advantage - “Oh man, I heard Max Charles hired someone to dial his in this year! Imagine if he actually gets his diet and training in check what he could do!? WE BETTER NOT EVEN COMPETE!”\
He has an awesome physique, very classical and aesthetic.
I’m reminded of Paul Dillet-unbelievable genetics and potential but never quite gets it together.
I reckon if he jumped in on Kevin English’s workouts and followed his advice to a T this guy could do unbelievable things.
I’m pretty sure he knows he is exageratting (like most people do and not just in bb’ing - everyone like to exaggerate to make their stories more interesting), but since he doesn’t really follow bb’ing or pl’ing he doesn’t know that some of his claims are that outlandish.
This is compounded by the fact that Palumbo is trying to corner him into saying some of this shit - probably because the more buzz the videos have the more traffic his site gets (his former site for the 1st vid). After the shit storm from the first vid I’m sure Palumbo has been dying to get a vid of Max up on his new site to bring in more traffic.
I’m also pretty sure Max doesn’t mind the attention (both negative and positive) since it is getting his name out there - not too bad for an amateur. He didn’t even have to have sex with food either.

honestly some pro bb’ers just need to be ignored, ala max charles.
