That guy’s a retard. If an American did something like that, we would be “arrogant Americans”. In fact, after seeing our own athletes getting asked dumb questions by foreign interviewers and how they try to act like the journalist ISN’T hacking the english language, this crap shouldn’t be tolerated.
But then, I imagine much of the world has this attitude towards Americans since the last 10 years or so.

Agree 100%.
He’s a fucking SPEEDSKATER that gets world wide recognition once every 4 years. Who the hell is going to know who is his in the first place, anyway?
No need to be a dick about it.
The skater from Finland had a pretty good sense of humour. The most muscular pose was good for a chuckle or two.
And FTR… Canadians are pretty passionete about skating of any kind. If the Mens and Womens hockey team wins gold it’s going to be nuts here.
I’m just waiting for the moment when I see some dudes in the background blazing away in the village square while some drone with a microphone is asking stupid questions. It’s gonna happen.

Didn’t even think of it that way…good point.
Could’ve been more subtle, but a retarded question get’s a retarded answer.
Ice skating is a national sport here, and most people that love ice skating don’t really understand that in the rest of the world it’s not a very popular thing. Sven got a little excited and didn’t realise that most people don’t give a fuck about ice skating.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with answering stupid journalists with stupid answers, wheverever they come from.
Very unschooled, but then again Europeans are sooo much more sophisticated than us backwards Americans!
He’s Dutch, and seems to have the misconception that the rest of the world cares as much about speedskating as his compatriots do. He couldn’t possibly fathom that nobody else gives a shit about his sport.
It’d be like an NHL star from Ontario lambasting a reporter in Auckland, New Zealand for not knowing who he is. To quote the South Park Michael Jackson…“ignorant…that’s ignorant!”

What retarded question? I have no idea who the fuck he is so asking questions about who he is for the rest of the world to know can’t possibly be stupid.
There are some well known rap artists in Houston, TX…that no one in New York has even heard about. Imagine that.

I don’t agree with the way he handled it but if one is going to interview someone, you would think they would know who they are going to interview.

Imagine that you’re him. You’ve just won gold. Now a journalist comes up and pretty much demands you to state your name etc. She could just SAY “I’m here with speedsater Sven Kramer who has just won gold etc”. I don’t know about you, but I find it disrespectful to any medallist to ask them to introduce themselves in such a way.
The way she put it deserved a stupid answer. I agree that he should have just said who he was and what he did out of politeness, but you can’t deny that the reported was rude in her approach.

this.
Yea, speedskating might be an obscure sport in the states. But she’s a reporter covering the event, you’d think that she’d know who just won the gold medal

Unless she outwardly degraded him, his response was shit. Celebrities get asked stupid shit all day long and most of them roll with it…lest they be called assholes across the internet.
There was a video recently posted of Kai Greene walking down the street in LA and some dumbass runs up to him and starts harassing him for a good 50 feet worth of the walk. Kai could have lost it and no one would have faulted him for it…until it hit the internet. Now, to the world, Kai Greene is a nobody…but I guarantee he wouldn’t have acted like that in the same situation even if he did win gold.
That interviewer might have also assumed he didn’t speak English well which may be why she first approached him like she did.

Most celebreties have put up with such shit since they have gotten famous. Sven isn’t even famous, only well known in our country. He’s gotten way ahead of himself and let himself get cocky. He has no idea how to handle such a situation because he lacks the experience.
But had the reporter approached him in a more friendly manner I’m sure he would’ve been much more polite. I haven’t seen the rest of the interview but the dutch reporter said that the rest of the interview went smooth and just that first moment was stupid.
hehe, I was actually seated in the crowd seen behind him there. If it was done when I think it was.
I think she was interviewing him just after the event so just moments earlier he was climbing over the boards to go attack his family while the entire building was going insane cheering so it doesn’t make a lot of sense for her to be asking that but I think she was just using the question as a starting point for the interview but it was a stupid way to do it IMO.
But he didn’t need to be rude and I agree with Prof that if it were an American athlete we would have plenty to say about it.
It’s got nothing to do with nationality for me, I think you’re getting offended over nothing. A journalist asked an idiotic question demonstrating that they had failed to research even the most rudimentary facts about the athlete. What’s the point in harassing people with inane questions?

That doesn’t make him a less big asshole.
His feet have lost contact with the ground I’m afraid.
I really don’t think its unreasonable for a gold medalist to expect a reporter REPORTING on HIS evnt to know who he is especially since he just won the race. They didn’t even know his name.
