Rock and Roll! Good luck with the interview, Pete.

Thanks Jack.

Lower deload begins. However, got new briefs (after 6 weeks) in the mail Tuesday, so had to drive to the monolift.

squats: warms up blah blah blah. Worked up to 605 for 1, high, will need more weight to break parallel.

one leg leg press 6 x 15

leg raise 6 x 15

reverse hyper 6 x 10

real banged up still from Monday. Test openers Saturday for bench then it’s pump fest until the meet. 605 felt like crap on the squat. I have still a long road of rehab/prehab/warmer weather to go before I am going to be squatting what I should be.

What about massages or getting a good hot shower before lifting? Some guys swear buy it when I used to fight/spar we would go in a steam room for 20 minutes then train, didn’t affect me but I was around 25-28 at the time but the heavyweights loved it.

Maybe even some sprints first.

Fischer

Fischer,
some of that works, right now I think i just have some microtrauma that I am not giving enough time to heal. Also, the hour drive to squat itself seems to really tighten me up. And I still have some stability issues with my knee. I will slowly get back to progressing.

30 minutes treadmill, 15 elliptical.

Had some realizations over changes I had made in my squat form that are NOT working. Hands have been going all the way to the end on the squat bar, to far out for me. I am losing arch and tightness. This combined with hip and knee issues has been the problem. I think the hip/knee issues might even be partially caused by this. Oh well, try new approach in a couple of weeks.

ice bath???

they suck but work fill up the tub drop in a bag or two of ice.
sit in it till you 'shrink

if you want you can run a hot shower after- works great in reverse too.

why do you think half my thread is like 1lb db’s and foam roller humping.
I can only imagine what walking out 600 does to people.
let alone laying under it.

Looking back I have a slew of issues that have screwed me up, esp squat wise. Psychological (job loss, change of gyms), physical (weather, not enough rehab/prehab), coming off of one great cycle with not enough deload, and other dumb ass moves. I realized the other night that I am so used to walking my squat out, and picking the top front cross bar of the rack to focus on set up. Squatting out of the mono I have been looking forward, and also for shoulder comfort moving my hands out to the end of an extra long bar. Losing tightness all around. Oh well, we live, we learn, we progress.

Looks like you have the issues effecting your squat figured out. that takes a lot of insight!

Good luck on the interview Pete. Now I’m going to have to get a pool table. My daughter is almost 12… UGH!

j_willy, highly recommend the pool table. Or a basement gym. If I had a daughter I think I might talk her suitors into benching with me.

Speaking of which, 1 week out, we did our openers today. With the benching mishaps a couple of weeks ago our schedule is off. I was a bit nervous today. Hadn’t touched yet. But here is what I did.

warm ups 140 x 20, 230 x 10, 280 x 5, 320 x 3, 3 board 410 x 3

shirt on, 3 board 550 x 3, 2 board 610 x 1

Opener
610 x 1 w/press and rack command.

went up easy breezy.

external roatations 5 x 15
db front raise 5 x 12
band pressdown 5 x 20

feel really good. light bb/rehab stuff this week for me. right now I am going to shower, eat some steak and eggs, and take a nap. feeling good about what my push/pull is capable of for next week.

Nice work, Pete. I am sure you are gonna smoke it at your meet.

I am enjoying some steak and eggs and a pile of pancakes right now as well. Mmmm.

What!! Was there a special at the supermarket on steak and eggs I didn’t know about!?

Wow 610 went up eazy-breazy. Yikes that is alot of weight!!

damn jack, everytime you mention food, you mention pancakes. Are they blueberry? I sure could go for some blueberry pancakes.

i have never eaten steak and eggs. how does one fix that?? sounds good.

awesome job on the opener attempt. that’s a lot of weight in one’s hands. i’m going to experiment with my next bench cycle. i’m going to do rack lockouts working up to 700 and then move on to my actual ME work.

rack lockouts don’t take much out of me and i think the really heavy weight will make my actual ME stuff light(er). i’ll be think’n about you actually taking that shit down to your chest as i move it a few inches:)

I don’t know what to tell you, other than I love pancakes, especially when they are dripping in butter and syrup. Big stacks of them. Blueberry pancakes are awesome, but I am not that picky. I usually eat just plain pancakes with an omelette or 8 or so eggs over easy.
