Going Bananas

like you said… this is life. you take the good with the bad. there’s no real happiness without the presence of sadness.

you will roll with it because that’s what you have to do. you have no choice. none of us do.

I feel for you. Going through so much. Sometimes it just seems like too big a load. But life will calm down. Your kids are at very high-maintenance ages. That will ease some over time. I totally understand the sleep issue. My family of four still plays “musical beds.” Makes for a restless night’s sleep. How nice that your wife may be able to quit her job and focusing on mothering (another very important “job” but an extremely rewarding one).

Sorry to hear about your mom. Such habits eventually catch up to people.

30 minutes elliptical
had kids party today, good fun, he has more toys that he knows what to do with, for the moment

thanks all for reading

squat night
went with a high volume approach.

squats, warm ups, etc. in briefs did 5 sets of 2 with 555. Almost like a speed day, but not really. Worked on figuring out my foot placement for best leverage.

raw ssb box squats 225 x 5, 315 x 5, 405 x 5

leg press 5 x 20, 10 narrow, 10 wide each set

ghr 3 x 10
hang abs 3 x 10

Got a question for ya on foot placement on squats.

I’m not as flexible as I wish I was. So I find when I go a little wider, (outside shoulder width/feet slightly flared) It feels and looks deeper. Feel stronger coming up. It hits my hips a little harder, but I get better overall muscle recruitment. I don’t low bar - can’t find a good position for it.

Make sense or am I getting a bad read?

OP, wider stance = easier depth. It is hard to get really wide when walking a squat out, and also it can get hard on the hips going really wide, if you squat gear-deficient. But you are right on.

Today, 30 minutes elliptical after work. Just can’t get up early enough right now to do it before.

ass. day

standing calve 5 x 15
reverse grip bench up to 325 x 6, some left in tank

power pushdowns supersetted with dips 3 x 15 each
laterals 45s x 10, 50s x 10

rope hammer curl 3 x 15-20

ab wheel bwt x 15, 45 x 10

awesome job on the reverse grip bench. i would like to see a vid of those.

meaticus, you are such a dirty voyeur… I am finding these the most comfortable version of benchin right now. These and close grips. I can just get stronger on the two for my raw work and not worry about my shoulders tweaking out on me.

tonight’s work was my weekly commercial gym visit, a ton of work in 1.25 hours. Kid played in the kid gym. I picked him up and he said “There was a girl I liked I wanted to play with but she ran away from me when I was a rhinoceros so I didn’t get to play with her much”… lmfao. Life is so good when you are four. Also he talks alot about he can’t wait to be a dad. I must be doing something right.

Oh, BTW apparently I will be training with/spotting ‘Hoss’ tomorrow, as he is in town.

pull night
145 x 5
235 x 5
325 x 5
Metal suite, switch to sumo
325 x 2
415 x 2
465 x 2
505 x 2
will move weight up considerably when/if I get sumo down. I just suck at it right now

stiff leg rack pull, mid shin, thick bar
235 + 200 in chains x 3
325 + 200 in chains x 3
415 + 200 in chains x 3
465 + 200 in chains x 3

ghr 4 x 12
dbell shrugs 4 x 15

not sure about this sumo thing, but gonna give gear whoring my dl a whirl finally

I’m stuggling with stance myself. There seems to be a sweet spot for me. I went outside it at the last meet, hence my bomb. I find I have about 2" from sweet to high on width. I’ve been playing with it a lot. When I move my feet 2" wider than my ‘good’ spot, my hips tell me I’m deep but I’m actually high. Move my feet in 1" on either side and I feel the same power but my ass will go 5" deeper. I just have to hit the spot without the rack bars to guide me or too much farting around.

I’m sorry to hear about you mom and your wife’s friend. It must be hard on you. No matter how old we are, we still have a dependent tie to our mothers.

Ms O, the right stance is so important, and once you throw gear into the mix, well sometimes the gear dictates how you have to stand. If it ain’t the right stance for you leverage wise, then you need to buy more gear…

today 25 minutes elliptical. Actually at a hard pace.

nice week of training

switching to sumo hmmm.

I am interested to see how this works out

thanks Kevin. regarding sumo, we shall see.

raw warm ups 140 x 10, 230 x 8 320 x 3, 3board 370 x 3, 410 x 3 added shirt 500 3board x 3 590 2 board x 2

Then I remembered I wasn’t supposed to be in the shirt this week. It made sense because everything hurt and was slow and ugly, so I started over:

Floor press 135 x 10, 225 x 5, 275 x 5, 315 x 5, 365 x 3, 385 x 3, 365 x 5

tricep death, 1 board to 5 board 225 x 25

pulldowns 6 sets up to 410 x 6

CSR up to 5 plates for 3 sets of 10

band pressdown 1 x 30

now heading into the woods to drink whiskey and shoot guns

get a vid of a sumo set with a near max attempt and i’ll take a look at it.

Oh, you guys and your big fat bench pressing…

Awesome lifting!

Steely, are you calling me fat?

because fat is awesome!!!

Meat, I’ll see if I can get some vid.

Was supposed to squat tonight, things got messed up, will be squatting tomorrow. Really just posting because I don’t want to drop off of first page.

BTW did extensive shooting this weekend. Also found stores in Wisconsin that will sell you bourbon and bullets in the same transaction. Awesome.

i’m quit the fan of shooting as well. my father was a weapon’s specialist in the army. he has a huge gun collection. i have a decent one but nothing close to my fathers. he has about 50 acres of land with four different target ranges set up. we have one for pistols, a large field for shot guns (clay pigions), a high powered rifle range and one set up for black powder. my favorite shooting is pistol shooting. we go through every scenerio we can think of that could happen in real life. we shoot from the ground, from the hip, draw and fire and many other fun scenerios. we typically shoot .22’s because the ammunition is so cheap. i have a ruger singe six that i love to shoot as well as a couple semi auto target pistols.

i also take up some big bores as well. there’s nothing like firing a .40 cal or 357 magnum though.

do you have your concealed weapon’s permit? here in va. they finally passed a law that allows you to carry in restuarants and bars as long as you aren’t drinking. I feel naked if i’m not carrying…you just never know these days.

I just picked up a ruger LCP .380. it’s perfect for concealed carry and was pretty inexpensive.

Meat, my dad was a pistol marksman for the Army.

Last few years I haven’t gone out shooting much, but intend to change that. Handguns are my fav for sure. Rattled a ton of 9mm rounds, and then tried out the Springfield Arms 1911 I have had for about a year and had not yet shot. Sweet piece, but it needs a trip to the gunsmith. Also nailed some rounds out of my buddy’s new .40, subcompact.

I don’t have my conceal and carry, yet. Will finally do this soon. Takes a little time commitment and time is short for now…
