I’ll join the club here. It sucks big time whenever I call home from work, and either of my girls ask if I can come home now.
Lifting’s is looking good in here!

I feel for you bro. How is the little guy adapting to not only losing you as a constant daytime companion but also having a younger sibling as well?

George, he is doing quite well considering. He keeps asking my wife wear I am, and then he says still? very little acting out so far. And he loves having a little brother. I am seriously very proud of my boy, he is so so good natured, and funny and loving, great personality. He will be 4 in a couple of weeks and I want to spoil him rotten. I was able to bring him to the gym tonight, and it made us both very happy, a moment of ‘normal’ for us. His girlfriend there, a fitness gal that works there, was gone for the day, but he got her boyfriend, a buddy of mine, to call her. This kid is going to go far.
need to get caught up everyone’s logs, but right now I am going to watch Jersey Shore instead. Sorry, gotta have priorities.
GTL
FTW.
nice pulling.
20 minutes elliptical, supposed to be 30. just didn’t get up early enough.
Congrats on both the job and the great lifting.
So, I came home after my first week at the new job. Nine months I have been home being stay at home dad, home-maker, budget juggler, dish washer, etc. Mainly I focused this time on my now almost 4 year old. He and I became the best friends in the world. He has more wisdom in him than any guru I have ever met. I have loved my stay at home time with him so immensely, but all the time the darkness loomed of economic survival.
So I got the job offer Friday, started Monday. I could write a novella of the whole starting as the new guy when your old, and big and scary looking. But most important here I want to talk about my boy. Thank god my wife was home with him and our new baby, on maternity leave, or I think this week would have gone much worse for both of us. I already stated above I cried Monday, in private, at my new job, missing my boy. Did the same Tuesday. I ‘manned up’ more through out the week. Thursday night I got home early and got to take him to the local commercial gym with me. He already has a way with the ladies there.
His main squeeze, a fitness chick, was off work, but her boyfriend got her on his cell, and that made him a little happier. Also made my lifts that much better. This morning he told my wife he had a dream where I was helping him across a bridge. This little boy is so amazing and really my best friend in the world. And I have many very good friends. The best though was tonight, at the end of the week, I walked in the door, and all was quiet except I could hear the radio was going between songs. My buddy then came running out and said ‘my daddy’ and right then this song came on, and he and I danced and held each other the whole time. God bless being a daddy…
One, two, three, uh huh
Yo, yo
I wake up in the mornin’ at 6 'o clock
You say there may be rain but the sun is hot
I wish I had some time just to kill today
And I wish I had a dime for every bill I got to pay
Some days you lose, you win, and the water’s as high as the times roll in
So I jump back in where I learned to swim
Try to keep my head above it the best I can
That’s why
Here I am
Just waitin’ for the storm to pass me by
And that’s the sound of sunshine
Comin’ down
And that’s the sound of sunshine
Comin’ down (down, down, down)
Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh
One, two, three, uh huh
I saw my friend Bobby he said “What’s up man?”
You got little work or 20 to lend
I opened up my hand he said “I’m glad to see”
They could take away my job but not my friends you see
And here I am
Just waitin’ for the storm to pass me by (pass me by)
And that’s the sound of sunshine
Comin’ down
And that’s the sound of sunshine
Comin’ down
Yo, yo, here we go
I wanna go where the summer never ends
With my guitar on the beach there with all my friends
The sun so hot and the waves in motion
And everything smells like suntan lotion
The ocean, and the girls so sweet
So kick off your shoes and relax your feet
You say that miracles are never ceasin’
And every little song needs a little releasin’
The stereo bumpin’ til the sun goes down
And I only wanna hear that sound
That’s the sound of sunshine (of sunshine)
Comin’ down
And that’s the sound of sunshine
Comin’ down (comin’ down, down, down)
And I say
You’re the one I wanna be with (yo, yo)
When the sun goes down (uh huh)
You’re the one I wanna be with (I really wanna be with)
When the sun goes down, sing
You’re the one I wanna be with
When the sun goes down
You’re the one I wanna be with
When the sun goes…
That’s the sound (that’s the sound) of sunshine (of sunshine)
Comin’ down (uh huh, uh huh)
And that’s the sound of sunshine
Comin’ down
Eh, eh, eh
When the sun goes down, when the sun goes down
Eh, eh, eh, eh (when the sun goes down)
I just logged back in for this one, it’s for Null:
My boy told my wife this morning that he dreamed about me leading him across a bridge. I asked him about it and he said yeah, we had an adventure and you kept me safe. We had to get across and you helped me get there.
Think I know what this means but heck, had to add it to my posts.
That’s just awesome, Pete. You and your boy are riding the same wavelength. Enjoy it!
We’re already lamenting that the 3 month old is ‘growing up’…
bb club closed, owner competing out in Oregon, so went to commercial gym
floor press 135 x 10, 225 x 5, 275 x 5, 315 x 5, 365 x 5, x 5, 315 x 12. haven’t done these in awhile, felt awkward.
bent rows. played around with some different variations, settled on Yates rows, worked up to 315 x 8 for two sets. Most of my lat work has been in true ‘RE’ fashion lately, i.e. not really heavy. Think I need to do some more heavy stuff again now for lats.
power pushdowns supersetted with dips 5 x 12-15 each
face pulls 5 x 8-12
land mine presses 4 x 12
now to mow the lawn, and take a family walk.
Great work Pete. And I Loved the above post. As awesome as it is to get a new job, I totally understand the flip-side that sucks about it, especially with the kids that age. I’ve been pretty lucky and found a steady stream of contract work that I can do mostly from my laptop at home. I think I would have a hard time going back to the office 10-12 hours a day like I used to, although I may have to if this work dries up.
Catching up on your log. Wow, you are strong. Do you train in gear? Love all the family chatter. I was lucky enough to quit my job before my first was born. My two are now 11 and 9, and I still only work part time from home so that being a mom can be my main priority. I am so fortunate.

I am a multi-ply guy. Still need a good total in full gear. Should have that somewhere in the near future.
You compete, I guess. What federation?

I have done USAPL and UPA, and unsanctioned, right now I am kind of sticking with APF for the time.
Pete,
That was well written about your feelings. You are good person.
My favorite sound in the whole wide world is my daughters or my boys laugh.
Just make special time for him now. (you already know that though)
Rick
Thanks Rick.
Yesterday and today did my hilly 2 mile walk. Weather has cooled off and has just been outstanding. Lots of time with both the kid and the baby.
This week I will be figuring out more where and when I will be training. Back to the BB club tomorrow night, and might be there more often, as it is close to the new job.
Gotta figure out if I will realistically be able to keep up prowler/hill sprints. I love the training effect, but time is kind of of the essence for the foreseeable future. And recovery.
