This is the first fall in 8 years that I have not been seriously preparing for a sport. What do you do after there is no high school or college athletics? What are some personal goals of the members of the forum? I have not workout aggressively in a month because I don’t have football or basketball to play during the school year. I am a quantifiable person and “looking good nekid” doesn’t work for me. What is everyone trying to accomplish by working out? Improved measurements? What?
1900+ total in 220lbs class.

This is a subject that comes up every once in a while. Lifting oriented goals (all by January 1, 2002): squat - 240x10; deadlift - 270x8 ; pullups - bodyweight plus 50 lb for 10 reps; dips - bodyweight plus 40 lb for 8 reps. Others: drop bodyfat level low enough to see full sixpack by June, 2002; retire by age of 45 (I’m 37 now).

If you want your workouts to be goal-oriented, why not take up powerlifting or olympic lifting?
I struggled with the same thing when I graduated…I felt like I needed some kind of goal or purpose, even though the real reason I was in the gym was to have a better looking body (of course, being healthy is great too). It was tough when someone would ask me…why do you eat tuna sandwiches, oranges, and peanuts all day? I didn’t want to say I was a bodybuilder, because I didn’t look like a typical bodybuilder and I never considered myself one. But, if you need measurable goals, set goals for heavier lifts, a lower bodyfat percentage, and larger measurements (arms, chest, legs, whatever). After a while, you’ll be looking quantifiably better nekid than you are now. The real question is…what are YOU trying to accomplish? Anyway, as you start getting bigger and looking better, people see the results and it becomes clear to them why you are eating tuna and spending so much time at the gym. Then they just think, “shit, I’ll have whatever he’s having please.”
survive bar fights and car accidents;-) and if I live long enough, play with my kids.
Short term:

Medium term:
competing in the World Weightlifting Championships.
Long term:
Totaling 400kg in the 105kg weight division.
1)Sprint 100m in under 11s by August 2002.
2)Dunk a basketball by June 2002. Somwhere in the middle, lose ~5lbs bodyfat and gain 5-10lbs lean mass.
Stay lean and strong, because there are going to be so many times in life you’ll be glad you are.
my immediate goal upon gradutaing highschool was to spend the next decade eating like a fat slob while sitting in my cubicle at work in front of my computer. i figured i could put on a good 60lbs. of fat this way. well, despite my dedication and hard work i fell short of my goal by 2lbs. i became so thouroughly disgusted with this failure that i got in the gym shedded the 58lbs so that i could make a few corrections and take another run at it. :o) kevo
