I was reading through a book I was recently given titled “Minerals, Supplements & Vitamins - The Essential Guide” by H. Winter Griffith, M.D. I got to the amino acid glutamine. The book states signs and symptoms of overdose/toxicity may decrease production of growth hormone. I always read about the 2 gram oral dose actually raising growth hormone. Does anyone know at what dose it suppresses it? I sometimes take in 15-20 grams at a time pre-workout. Any info would be helpful.
There is absolutely no reason to consume 15-20 grams of glutamine in one serving at any time. Research has shown that 2-3 grams twice daily is optimal.
I was actually trying a method described by Dr. Serrano in a t-mag article.“DS: Glutamine has made a big difference in my patients, especially their immune systems, and glutamine gets rid of colds; it helps your joints; and it can increase your strength in one day. People will ask me where I’m getting this information from, but I’ve been playing with 11 patients with different dosages. Here’s what I’ve come up with: you need .35 grams per kilogram of body weight. And you take it in one dose an hour before a workout. Tell me what happens during your workout. I don’t care what type of workout it is.” Bump my original question.
