Gloves or No Gloves?

I would wear gloves, but I don’t want to have to tell my parents that I’m gay.

Just kidding - It’s the weight that the gloves are carrying that matters. I don’t wear gloves, but you should be more worried about actual workouts than what you wear to them.

Bottom line - Who cares? Just lift the fucking weight.

I used to wear gloves like 10 yrs ago, but I stopped after my dad told me a story about jesse james–the outlaw not the bike guy. Anyways it seems that he was robbing a train, and was taking peoples watches, and wallets and such. Then he came to a rich looking man and a farmer type and he asked to see their hands the farmer, who had callouseswas spared, the rich looking guy–who did not-- was shot in the face.

i second the notion of:

Gloves = Gay

Chalk = Cool

And add a Spray Chalk = Ok

Where do you stand on cradling a football like a baby while not wearing a shirt? j/k

Are we actually talking about this stupid topic…and am i actually responding to it?

First, do what you want…if gloves make it easier on your hands and grip wear gloves.

What’s this bull shit about it’s okay for girls but not guys and what colour gloves will go with my leotard crap.

If people are going to the gym and checking out whether or not others are wearing gloves, you don’t belong in a gym.

Agreed…just move the fucking iron.

MicroSlash - “Wearing gloves in the gym because playing the guitar loudly and well generates the $$$ to buy the gym membership…”

bro that is brilliant ! reading this thread makes me wanna go get some gloves just to piss people off ! or at the very least everbody’ll think i’m gay and frickn leave me the frick alone. i’ll get the pinkest ones i can find and warm up with 10 or 20 sets of curls in the rack.

i also figure on gettin’ a matching pink swim cap to reduce drag when i’m “exploding out of the hole” grunting like a chick tennis player. then i’ll stand there and spray myself down with silicone for the same reason. prolly then i’ll need some chalk to offset the silicone. does it come in colors ?

After reading all the responses to this thread now I’m definitely wearing gloves for the rest of my lifting career (basically till I’m dead). Then the first time I get called out for wearing gloves and being gay I’ll respond by throwing chalk in the dude’s eyes and proceed to beat his ass with my GLOVES on.

Ragdoll the raisin.

DB

like i wrote earlier what is most important is the lifting of the weight. so if u do it with gloves or without so what. as i read it makes me wonder do some people have problems with their masculinity. so let me get this straight if i wear gloves i am gay. if i don’t i am a man. maybe the ones with the gloves are the real men because they don’t worry or care what other people say. like i said i have worked out for years without gloves then one day decided to use them. honestly no big difference to me now more of a personal preference

DB,

You’re right. Not beat him, but ragdoll him. I’ve got to get hip with times here :wink:

Arnold always said if you need a belt, wrist straps, or gloves to assist you in lifting a weight then it is too heavy for you.

Seriously, if your grip is weak or your palms are sweaty get some chalk.

Leave the gloves to the “Queer Eye” crowd. [/quote]

That’s funny. Arnold said a lot of crap back in the day that was out there. I wonder what he thinks of all the pics of him squatting with a belt?

If you’re tall and you are squatting or DL’ing heavy - you should probably wear a belt - it may not be macho, but screw it, I like to lift - I’d rather lift than blow out my back and then not be able to lift for a while.

Also, if your gym does not allow chalk - you have to use straps on some lifts when you go super heavy - especially down here in Florida it gets humid as hell and damp - even the iron gets rusty from just sitting there indoors in A/C.

Back to topic: No gloves. Women like callouses as long as you keep them neat - I’ve been told this by many girls I’ve gone out with. They think it’s really manly and makes the subtle or not so subtle illusion that you aren’t some metrosexual wussy.

To you glove wearers: this is not to imply anything about your being a wuss. So don’t flame me! If you like wearing gloves, knock yourselves out. I like no gloves - I like to feel the iron, so to speak.

I was asking if gloves help you or mess you up, not “if I wear gloves, am I a pussy?”. I just meant is there some secret to gloves, like do they mess up your grip or can they help your grip. And obviously i see they help my hands.

Like condoms during sex…YEAH I GET YOUR POINT…FEEL THE BAR AND THEN SEE THE CALLOUSES…GIRLS LOVE THAT!!!
