Okay, I’m 41, 6’ and about 255lbs but I’d say 20%bf or more. Pics in hub.
I haven’t been going to the gym as often as I should and am getting too soft. The good news is there’s a branch of my World Gym opening up literally 4 minute’s walk from my home!..so I have aplan to go 6 days a week and want YOU GUYS to tell me what to do.
My goal is to lose fat. I don’t plan on getting stronger as it’s just not going to happen sicne I waould liek to get down to a respectable body fat level and be about 200lbs.
Now not to be a dick but I asked something like this before in the conditioning forum and got answers like “If you don’t know what you’re doing by now you’re screwed” and “You should already be low in body fat” etc.
It’s not that I couldn’t perhaps put together a good plan myself, but I just want input as to what you’d do with weights/cardio if you were me going in 6 days a week…I’m even open to going in twice a day since I can go in the late afternoon as well as early moring since the gym is so close as I said.
maybe you can’t get strong but you certainly can and should get stronger, much stronger
you need a plan for the kitchen, not the gym most of the workout info you get will at best be supplementary to what’s going to make the ultimate difference.

It can’t be overstated how true this is. OP, I’ve lost ~85# (and kept it off) over the last 8 years, and can say unequivocally that attention to diet comprises 90% of my ongoing success. I’m more than happy to share my opinion re what you should do in the gym, but only after emphasizing that, when it comes to fat loss, the importance of the gym pales in comparison to that of the diet. It’s an expression I’m certain you’ve heard many times, but it’s worth repeating: You can’t out-train a bad diet.
My two “diet tips”: no liquid calories whatsoever (the sole exception being unflavored protein supplement if desired), no fried foods.
And I’ll differ slightly by saying you don’t really have to get stronger per se, just build more muscle doing rep & volume work if you find that easier mentally (I know I do); more muscle, more calories burned -the other way to “lose” weight w/o eating drastically less; takes a much, much longer time (probably years, not the weeks or months that most “dieters” seek) of course. For “cardio”, just walk everywhere you go if you have the time and always take the stairs if possible as well.
Thanks guys. I’m aware of the importance of diet…how hard I do that is the problem.
EyeDentist I will gladly accept your advice on ehat to do in the gym.
I should add that it’s not like I’m a rookie or anything…just that it sort of feels good to be given a set of things to do instead of making my own routine…like a challenge sort of.

Have you had a chance to visit the new gym yet? If so, what sort of cardio equipment do they have? Also, do they have kettlebells?[/quote]
It opens in a week or two and it will likely have the same equipment as the other places so a wide variety though the kettlebells they only have 4 or 5 and those are for PTs training with clients I think.
