Jason, i left you a post on the “Rik be quiet” thread ![]()
Not a bad idea Joel. I’d have to include my good buddy, Eric in the mix though. He has been a tremendous help to me since we’ve started talking through email. You guys just need to finish school.
I'm totally serious that if you guys (Eric and Joel) want to get together after you are done with school and start our own gym/personal training studio where we can do advanced certifications and seminars, I am totally in.
At least I've got a year(s?) before you guys are done with school, so I can really bulk up and get to a nice lean 215-225.
Anyways, it is something to think about :)
I’m not sure if this will go through so I will try it two ways. If you want to make a paragraph just use this symbol:
Note to Mod: I’m not sure you what you can do, but can you leave the paragraph symbol typed out.
Note from Mod: Doesn’t work that way. You type the symbol, the computer does it. Try this: “<” “p” “>”. Leave out quotes.
I’m game! I am planning on going to grad school at least put off actually doing something with my life for an extra year, though!
Workout 1: A1) Chins, A2) Bench Press, sets: 3, reps: 10, rest: 60 seconds, tempo: 3 up, 1 down. B1) Bicep curl, B2) Tricep extension, sets: 3, reps: 10, rest: 60 seconds, tempo: 3 up, 1 down.
Workout 2: A1) Shoulder press, A2) Bent-over row, A3) Upright row, sets: 4, reps: 10, rest: 60 seconds, tempo: 3 up, 1 down.
Not as balanced as it could be, but I can't even work abs (because they attach my my pelvis!!!) and its the best I could think of. Any suggestions on how to modify it with these considerations in mind?
Even though the comment that i made was in a passive, joking manner; there was alot of seriousness to it. It has been something that has been on my heart ever since i started the bull shit course work, and am now dealing with all the worthless certification organizations out there. I want to do something about it! I’m not somebody who is going to sit back and watch all the heresay, misinformation, and outdated material to be continually preached to individuals going into this field. If i’m going to enter the field; i’m going to make a difference. I really have been looking to meet knowledgeable individuals with similar goals, ambitions, and who share a common vision. All’s i can say is “Man, let’s give exercise science what it has been longing for for years: answers; the right ones.” I know it’s going to be a couple of years yet, but we could at least throw around some ideas.
Eric, i havn't really talked much w/ you personally, but it is very obvious by just reading your posts here on the forum that you are an extremly knowledgeable individual who i would love to learn from and if given the opportunity, work with in this endeavor.
I kid you not when i say this is my passion! I've just been looking for some people to team up with. This is what i'm about; and i guarantee that i'm going to do everything in my power to make it happen...i'm that kind of person; always have been. Bring this mofo on! (Do i seem a little excited?!?!)
I already got an email from Jason, and replied with my personal address. Jason, feel free to pass this on to Eric; and Eric, i'll get yours from Jason. Looking forward to talking with you both.
Gentlemen, you are making a certain Aussie Exercise Science student very jealous! What you’re discussing sounds like an absolute dream. Maybe I’ll have to move to America to gatecrash this venture
Best of luck!
We can go global with this one!
Sorry, I must have missed your post. Those are some fantastic results, especially in the time period following your keto diet. I’ve been taking notes on your methods of reintroducing carbs and I’m quite intrigued. I may give it a shot some time.
As for posting pictures, Eric has volunteered to start a T-man gallery at his website www.ericcressey.tripod.com/ so send him some pics and a bio and we can get this thing started. I'll be posting my pics over there at the end of my cutting phase.
Once again, fantastic job!
just wanted to verify that you recieved my email today, subject: “hey man”
I was uncertain as to whether or not it sent. Just reply via email if it sent.
Indeed. You guys have got a Melbourne outpost if needed.
Joel - got your email, I’ll respond later
Meltdown is tearing me up and I'm loving it. Finished my 3rd meltdown workout today (repeat of monday) and felt a lot better. I'm feeling tighter and my body fat is going down while my weight is not changing (very Good News to me). I've got a few suggestions for anybody else doing meltdown training or any other type of lifting where you are pouring out sweat:
1. Get yourself a small chalk ball from a rock climbing store. Deadlifts came 4th today after pull-ups, squats and push-ups and without chalk the bar would slip out of my hands. With chalk, it was much better.
2. Don't do the same weight each giant set. You'll lift too light on the first set and too heavy on the last set. I've structured my workouts like this:
1st giant set: weights at x+10%
2nd giant set: weights at x
3rd giant set: weights at x-10%
I'm getting much better results than when I was using "x" weight for all three giant sets
I'm pumped guys! Fat loss was slowing down for me, but with this renewed training and some serious support from everybody here, I'm tearing it up!
Keep it up guys!
Bruva, did u say u lived in Melbourne?..if so where bouts as i live @ Mt.Waverley opposite Pinewood shopping centre. Nice to know that there’s a fellow T-bro around the corner!..
Mt.Waverley near Scotchman’s Creek, end of Lawrence Rd. VERY small world.
I forgot to mention how much fun you can have at 24Hr Fitness. I always get some weird looks when I’m doing one arm dumbell snatches, but the looks (and laughs) I got while doing turkish get-ups were phenomenal. Very few people that look or laugh ever talk to me (I wish they would). They are usually pretty confused. They look at me like I don’t really know what I’m doing, but then they notice that the dumbells I’m using for snatches and turkish get ups are bigger than what they were doing the dumbell bench with and then they become pretty confused.
I suggest just trying some turkish get-ups in your gym, if only just for the looks on the other people's faces.
i broke down and bought one of those tanita scales yesterday… that thing sucks…4-5% variation over an hour period, with no peeing/crapping/food or water intake… the weight was incredibly consistent though… the directions on the scale say to weight yourself in the evening, but i can’t see how that would lead to accuracy, for obvious reasons… anyway, i guess all i can do is do what jason n. said and do several readings at once, get an average, and do it for a whole week. by fat cailipers, i’m about 18%… that tanita scale flutuates from 20-25%… disappointed, probably take the damn thing back…another subject, i tried joel’s cardio training friday morning, it liked to killed me !!.. but i can definitely see how it can work. i’m going to keep at it, i believe it will get me though this sticking point…
Podge, keep it up. I would highly recommend talking to Jason Norcross about the scale before taking it back.
Podge - Keep it up buddy! The sprinting should help bust through your plateau.
As for the Tanita scale, it is a good tool if you know how to use it and a terrible tool if you just fool around with it. I just bumped up a thread for Zippy with my recommendations for the Tanita scales. It was the thread Mufasa started last week entitled: "Jason N:% Body Fat Follow-up". Read through that thread and I think you can markedly improve the quality of the Tanita scale. If you've got more questions just ask me.
On a side note, have you had a cheat day or even just a cheat meal recently. If not, it may be about time to go out and have some pizza. I know Berardi says no cheat meal unless on bulking, but from my experience and the experience of many others (just ask Joel), a cheat meal/day can be a vital part of any cutting phase.
thanks joel, i’m gonna check that out. (tanita)… i do have a so-called “cheat meal”… but it’s still pretty strict…like, i would eat a filet mignon with a baked potato, and the extra carbs from the potato and some butter is part of what i consider cheating… i still don’t think it’s bad… i’ve been craving pizza so bad lately ! but for the past 6 weeks, the memory is a bit dulled on how good bad stuff tastes and i don’t want to screw that up…
I agree 100% with the latter portion of Jason’s post. Just don’t take the cheat day/meal on a day in which you are planning to sprint the next morning; you’ll minimize the effectiveness of the workout (and the amount of fat you’ll burn as a result of that workout).
