Getting Into Military Shape

I think a 7 minute mile is decent…even for the army…and with time it will even get better.

One thing I’d add to get ready is that I remember getting tired out because you’re basically on your feet all day…so if you have time before you go be sure not to just run hard in the morning and then sit around all day. If you can walk or hike or even bike later on in the day to just keep you active.

I was considering swimming or biking later on in the same days that I do my PT.

wind sprints/suicides are the shit for increasing lung capacity imo, you need to look at your run and where its failing, to realize what you need to do to fix it. its the same in bb, pl, and that other shit, find your weekness and target it if its lung capacity then run wind sprints, if your legs are giving out then train for more type 2 muscle fiber ie run longer. running and calasthenics are what you will be performing. its pretty basic shit that could even be why its called basic. good luck and i commend you on desire to serve.

I’m not in the military nor have I done bootcamp, found this guy’s site when prepping for a 5k. Military Workouts, Military Fitness Articles and Resources | Military.com

Lifting is not really needed for bootcamp, so just do it if you want… But you should be running, get a rucksack and fill it with some sand bags, do a shit ton of push ups and pull ups and calisthenics, You are going to lose weight in boot camp anyways.

In the long run if you are in the Marine Corps definitely at least try for Recon/MARSOC, I was never able to join due to a medical waiver but I don’t know why EVERYONE doesn’t at least try out once, far cooler then any other job in the military. [/quote]

Yeah, it’s totally cool. Chicks will dig you.
