Getting Banned from a Gym, Need Help

Planet fitness goes on and on about “average people.”

Why would you want to be average?[/quote]

it gives below average people something to strive for.

Nothing to really add except that I have been blessed with 3 different gyms that are powerlifter friendly. One gym the back room was created just for us. The other one is the same way, but the gym supplies chalk, and has a mono, and the other one has a mono. 2 out of 3 have a radio just for us, and the 3rd one the gym owner throws on heavy metal for us if we ask.

I went up to a PF (located in the mall no less) to ask about their day passes. They are open 24-hr through the week so i wanted to know the day-rate just in case I decided to lift late one night. I went in and asked that was, no joke at all here, about 5’6’’ and maybe 130lbs. I almost started laughing because it was like ever stereotype I’ve heard about this place is true. I just smiled, said hi and asked my question. The kid told me “It’s $20 a day.” I just stared at him like he didn’t have ears. He tells me “The reason it’s $20 is because if you come in one day and like it, you can bring the receipt in and we will give you $10 off the starting cost.” I told him that I just wanted somewhere to lift at night and he said there was no way around it. I still said thanks and just walked away.

wow, i hope this American shit (no offense guys) gym never makes it to Aus

we got it alright here,

gym i go to is a commercial gym gym, biggest on in aus i think (fitness first)

got all the gym bunnies and the cardio classes but they never approach the weights

all the deadin and oly lifting we want, the PT do the same for gods sake

oh my god…the no deadlifitng thing is retarded! if they set the alarm off on me for anything i’d just think its time for the peculator.

ten bucks a month is far to much for that nonsense.

the only rule that i can understand to a degree are the no camera rules some spots have–which i violate every day. just from a privacy stand point i can vaguely see the point. 24 hour is pretty cool, it all just depends on the staffing. i feel bad for anyone who has such limited gym options…

Here’s another tip on getting around the no-chalk rule; I dropped by the local climbing store to pick up some chalk, and noticed they’ve got something called an Eco Ball (Eco Ball) in stock; looks like a funny colored chalk sock, and is touted as not staining rock. The price is in the same range as chalk, too.

I just use this

Very discreet and it works as well or better than chalk

So far people have mentioned Eco Ball and Mighty Grip… any other clear & discrete options for deadlifting in gyms that don’t allow chalk?

I bring a climbing chalk sock and chalk up in the bathroom or in the closest vacant room. If anyone ask why my hands and wrist are white I just say that I must be a bit ashy today. I keep the sock in a ziplock bag.

Every time I see this thread I become pissed.

If people were thrown out because they were violent, it would be okay.

Being thrown out for using chalk is not okay. If the lifter cleans up after himself and does not make a spectacle about himself when training (it is possible to lift heavy weigh without making shitloads of sounds), then there should be absolutely no reason to kick him out.

However, fighting with comercial gym management is often futile, so the best way is to get your own place, where you can do whatever you like, open 24/7 and no rules.

Many people probably would not be open to this alternative, but I have used it many times as alternatives to chalk.

Dry dirt from the back yard + some sand. mized up in a bowl and keep it in a gallon size bag. The dirt absorbs sweat and moisture almost as well as any chalk I’ve ever used.

I figure that faded brown hands wouldn’t look as sketchy as chalky white.

As someone with a degree in Environmental Science I can say that soil does do a pretty good job of absorbing moisture so long as it’s not too terribly sandy.

Oh, it is possible to get liquid chalk to. The point is that for this even to be an issue is a total FAIL. Any gym that restrict the use of chalk do not want serious lifters around.

Serious lifters should go elsewhere and don’t bother imo.

WTF. Dude, UCR rec center literally fails at making up policies. I was maxing out on deadlifts and after doing an easy rep of 475, they told me I couldn’t deadlift since I was using metal plates, even though I had a bumper plate first! Also, they saw my chalk(not liquid). I purchased liquid chalk and was hoping that they wouldn’t say shit to me again! No wonder I haven’t seen you anymore, where do you lift now?

I am thinking about being more discrete about it. I might go to the locker room and use the liquid chalk before my sets. What do you think?

No one would ever know.
