Get Your Weight Up

i recieved an email from a local university inviting me to walk on to thier football team. Only issue is i havent maintained my playing weight and need to bulk back up to healthy 305lbs with less than 23%bf. i read in the recent In the Trenches II specifically Dr. Lonnie referring to the 6 serving approach. Does anyone know of better detail the program and insulin utilization he is reffering to?

currently my stats

6’5
268
21%bf

I have implemented the 5/3/1 program and love it with some serious strength gains. i imagine my Cardio will cut back when im trying to add mass?

Yep bro minimize the cardio, how much time do you have to do this?

I’d just keep it simple. Something like 5/3/1 or WS4SB or westside for fat bastards. You’ll want to make sure your conditioning is taken care of as well; unless there will be time to trian for this later on.

The main thing will just be EATING A TON. You can expect an initial weight gain of maybe 10-15lbs within the first 2-4 weeks. This will mainly be water and glycogen. After that, shoot for about 2lbs per week. All in all, maybe 3-6 months should do it. At first, a lot of what is added might be water, with some fat, and muscle, but as you maintain that weight and train, there will a shift toward more muscle.

I would think he’d need to do cardio so that he were in-shape for try-outs. I wouldn’t completely cut it out unless you don’t think you need the cardio/aerobic benefits. But I’ve never played football so I don’t really know.

Thanks guys!

im still working on eligibility issues so it sounds like ill miss spring ball. im thinking bulk up minimal cardio then spend the summer getting in playing shape.

At least initially you can stay away from cardio, but you are going to have to do some speed and agility work eventually if you are going to get where you want to be as a football player. Football is not all about just being in shape, you need to make yourself more explosive and athletic along with being big.
