Get Bigger

I’m new here and this is my first post. Here comes the story… All that one can read in the given literature are universal rules regarding the food intake and training, even though we all have differing metabolisms, and we thus can not achieve top results due to genetics and discipline, and many other involving facts. I cannot agree with the phrase that I am a “lucky one” because I have a faster metabolism, and I can eat everything. You do not know the troubles I have regarding the weight gain, maybe they are bigger than for those who want to loose weight.

I do not even recall all the things I have tried, but my organism just refuses my attempts to smuggle in extra meals - as the results turn to vomiting and toilet visits. Milk is my largest enemy, as my stomach just refuses to intake more than a glass of milk per day (I can drink a whole half a liter of joghurt - but what can I combine with it, since the protein drink is made with milk), and then the struggle begins- followed by horrible sounds from my stomach ? even if I drink the milk with the protein mix or protein chocolate.

When I do eat the protein chocolate I drink the glutamine or BCAA, and my stomach does accept that. However the protein drinks it does not, and I do not know if it is due to the 500ml needed for the daily intake, or if it is from the protein drink mix itself (I generally drink the Pro Lab N-Large 2, but I have also tried the MLO Gainer 3600).

Some text authors in the magazines recommend steroids for the 10 kg that I want to gain, because for the 3 months that I have corrected totally my diet (took out extra sweets and pork products and fizzy drinks ? and supplemented it with more wish, beef, starch and the supplements- and with all that I exercise 3-4 times a week) I have only gained 2 kg that I still loose sometimes.

I turn to you because you are truly the most competent persons that I know of, and I truly have no solution ? even though I have great strength, will and discipline, and have no using all that is necessary for me to gain weight, as it is my great wish.

I just want to mention that I am 26 years old, and since I was 18 I had between 140 and 150lbs at the height of 6’3’'. I do have a good appetite, and I am healthy. Thus I truly cannot understand what is the problem here, and how come I cannot achieve the results I wasn’t after so many years? Thnx for your help.

hmmm. Ever tried the crispy creme diet?

Have you read the skinny bastard diet in t-mag?

check the search engine.

Just because you can’t drink milk doesn’t mean you can’t grow.

Surely you can find a way to get more kcals in.

oh, and roids won’t do anything for you if you aren’t eating enough…

Thnx Kieran! I’ll try skinny bastard diet.

Are you saying that you mix the protein powders with milk and that causes you problems? If ss and maybe im an idiot for saying this, what about dropping the milk and just using water. Also, you dont necessarily have to use the powders to do it. Try the old fashioned way with lots of chicken breasts, ground beef and lots of oatmeal for carbs.

It’s your diet stupid!

Start a food log at www.fitday.com if you haven’t already. I’ll bet your not eating anywhere near as much as you think you are.

Do a search for “massive eating” on the left there.

And exactly how many calories are you eating…???

Nowhere in your post did you give us a ballpark for daily caloric intake. Your body will not build anything if you eat less calories than your body spends - and clearly it spends a whole heck of a lot.

Hi, there, XL_Mike. Welcome to the board!

I’d second Kieran’s recommendation re the Skinny Bastard diet. Gaining weight – make that “gaining lean body mass (LBM)” is going to require that you optimize protein, carb, fat and caloric intake. The Skinny Bastard Diet uses low/no-fiber, high glycemic carb choices, which cause the body to spike insulin. Typically there is a rebound hypocglycemic response, which will result in your being hungry again in very short order. Bottom line, you’ll be eating more and more frequently.

Re milk, it’s high on the list of those foods to which a percentage of the population is allergic. Part of building the body you want is going to involve selecting foods your body responds well to and avoiding those foods your body does not respond well to. In general, cutting or bulking, I recommend the avoidance of milk, not because of the fat but because it has a milk sugar called galactose. Galactose intake will result in higher subcutaneous fat stores. Use the search engine and read up on galactose to see what I’m talking about.

Back to optimizing your diet:

  • How many meals are you getting in a day, and how frequently are you eating?

  • How many grams of protein are you getting in per meal and per day and from what sources?

  • How much fat are you getting in per day and from what sources?

  • How about carbs? How much and what are your choices?

  • Do you do P+F and P+C food combining?

  • Do you pack your food and take it with you in a cooler?

  • How many days a week do you lift weights? How much cardio do you do?

  • What is your general level of activity? In other words, do you do hard physical labor, or are you sedentary? Also, what sports do you particpate in?

  • What does your post-workout nutrition (PWO) look like?

  • I know you’re new to T-mag. Have you been reading articles on nutrition and bulking in the article archives?

Get me some of the above information, and we’ll be better able to help you figure things out and get you moving in the right direction.

If you’re having that much trouble with cow’s milk, switch to making your own nut milk from almonds or walnuts.

Just put the nuts in a coffee grinder, put them in a glass jar, and pour boiling water over them. Let them sit for a few hours. After it has cooled, filter out the remaining chunks with a cheesecloth if desired (I don’t bother). This gives a calorically-dense, medium protein, high-fat milky drink that you can use to make your protein drinks with. That will pack on the pounds!

Also, consider adding digestive enzymes in with each meal.

You could also try goat’s milk. But I think that - as Diesel mentioned above - the problem lies elsewhere.

How many calories do you take in per day? Not to denigrate TT’s very comprehensive response, but if you don’t know this number then we’ve found the problem. All that other stuff is not as important as your overall number of calories per day.

So what is it?

I love this place! Not denigrating my comprehensive reply either, but Char-Dawg’s dead on with the calorie thing! (chuckling)
