Genetics Aren't Real

So, what did I do wrong in my childhood to not end up 6’8 with great bone structure? I would like to be able to tell my future son how to become Lebron James if you don’t mind.

That depends on your definition of those terms.

My lean weight is almost 190 at a total weight of 220. I could take two or three months and diet down to 190-195 and easily dwarf you.

And I’m nowhere near the biggest man on this site.

Numbers are relevant to everything. You can’t toss numbers out the window just because you don’t like yours

I understand that you’re proud of what you’ve achieved, but the truth is that you haven’t achieved anything great enough to make this assertion. Almost anyone can reach 165lbs at 10% bf. I myself am gunning for 220 @ 10% within two more years.

You cannot judge anyone’s genetics by what they looked like when they were untrained, or when they were a teen. You judge genetics by how good they look at the top of their game. When you hit that final plateau where you just can’t push it any farther no matter what you try, that’s your genetic limit. There are clues along the way, but you just won’t know until you get there.

Aaaaaand I’m late as fuck to the party.

Started my post, a buddy came over and hung out for a while, finished my post and hit Submit and BAMM!! I’m on page five.

Post still relevant, though.

what people don’t realize is that bodybulding genetics can be overshadowed by other problems like slow metabolism, diabetes, or obesity. Some of these problems ARE genetic, and can seriously hold you back in making progress especially if you’ve been the type who has struggled to be lean his/her entire life. I’m one of those people whos always put on fat no matter how much attention i’ve paid to my diet, but in the past 12 weeks i’ve lost over 30lbs just eating the way i’ve always ate since i’ve started lifting seriously 2 years ago. Within those 12 weeks, i’ve gained a shit load of strength by doing Tim Henriques 8-week basic strength plan (and am still gaining) and am maxing close to 315 on the bench, 400 on the squat, and 500 on the deadlift. This is all thanks to metformin, which has allowed me to eat carbs and an abundance of calories while losing weight and getting strong. So yeah, genetics can be a big deal, only if you let them dictate everything.

Kanada, you REALLY need to get your ego in check, mate. That’s great that you’ve been lifting for a while, but you’ll get nothing but crass remarks and negative comments when you continuously make it clear you think of yourself as MUCH more advanced than you are. Read a little more, post a little less, that’s my advice to you. And lift/eat more.

LOL!!!

Edit for less bitchiness. :stuck_out_tongue:

I wish you were right, but here is an article to help explain.

Genetics have nothing to do with it?

Dorian Yates benched 315lb the first time he ever benched…when he was 16!!! yeah genetics have nothing to do with it,

WHAT A FUCKING BELL END!!!
There are plenty of gymnasts who have never picked up a bar in their life. Are they strong as fuck? YES. Did they have to pick up a barbell to get like that, FUCK NO. Just because Dorian supposedly benched 315 the first time he ever benched doesnt mean thats the first time he ever used his muscles and just naturally grew into a monster without even getting up off the chair.

Best thing about this thread?

That people are going to continue arguing with this twat troll for another few pages before starting to cannibalize each other as OP fades into the background with a bag of popcorn.

Round of applause in advance for this effort.
I won’t even read it. Popcorn my ass, I eat pizza and burgers. My progress is quite apparent. Your is too. Its a shame there isn’t a 16 inch arm thread, a younger steve reeves wouldn’t fit in on this site very well. And he still trumps many on this board when it comes to physique, not that much has changed since his time.

In fact, and I’ve never been this bold before, I’m easily one of the better developed posters here. I doubt many here bring a better 160lb body than me, and there are weight classes for a reason. I know what I am, lean and muscular. You tell me that I’m too small? Let’s see how big you are with full abs.

People here need to get over numbers, those are only relevant to weightlifting.

Genetics do not determine success, its how you live that will make that decision.
1. You look like shit, even for 160 lbs. You by no means have a “good” body.
 2. The difference between the person who won the gold medal in the olympics and the person who didn’t make it to the finals? Genetics. Top athletes put in the same amount of work, they all want it, they all have access to the top coaches, the main thing that differentiates them amongst each other is genetics.
Don’t really follow your logic. I look so far from shit it isn’t funny. Or are you comparing me too Olympia competitors?

Nope, the difference is alllllllllllllllllll

Mental. Nobody wants it as much as the person who wants it most.
No I’m comparing you to myself and high school athletes I coach. Most of them haven’t been lifting more than a year and are more endurance based athletes yet still look better than you. You’re delusional if you think you actually look good.

And they are gymnast precisely because they were genetically disposed to survive the rigors of gymnastic training and not merely survive, but thrive and make progress.

i hate this forum these days. Cya later.

You’re on your way to be like Lebron James. You already have same amount as NBA rings as he has…

What a bunch of fucktards who are unable to think about something. Marzouk, you have 0 credibility in this forum and pretend you do. I have 0 credibility and make it very obvious I don’t.

If it were so hard to be a bodybuilder, it wouldn’t be a sport that so many of us love. I don’t care who you are, steroids ruined every pro sport. There is an invisible line you must cross and forever lie about. How about pubertal gyno I had to have removed? Did that have anything to do with my genetic predispositions or if I had the HARDWORK, DESIRE, and FORTITUDE to have a good chest it would have just gone away on its own, or I could have willed my pectoralis major and minor to start growing over the mammary gland? There also a lot of other things on my body that if I had different genetics would probably look different, or can i will myself into better vascularity, forget that i used to be a 275lb blimp with no muscle i can will my skin to get less stretched out and look tighter, I am just not working hard enough. HOLY SHIT! I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!
I think the OP is incredibly wrong on this topic but you are arguing into his point here. You weren’t genetically predisposed to be a 275lb blimp with no muscle, and your skin not shrinking wouldn’t be an issue if you weren’t the aforementioned. This isn’t an attack on you, you’ve clearly got shit in order now, but that’s exactly the point he is making.

Really the best arguments are the easiest and most obvious. “You can’t teach tall.”

This one time, I thought I had genetics… but then I read this thread.

I will fully admit that the women on this site, at least the ones who publicly make their presence known, seem more successful than the average male. They don’t have 300lbs monsters as their heroes, but they also seem to represent the ideal that is supposed to be this sites MO. They work hard, post progress, and yes, there are certainly more women here who look better than me at 160 than men. No doubt

Tall has 0 to do with muscular development. Nor does tall equal basketball success, ask mugsy boggs, damien stoudamiere, Patrick kane (a small and talented hockey player) so once again, genes only give you a body of work to work with.

Mental fortitude, encouraging/abusive parents, proper diet, long term training, and a willingness to be in pain. nothing genetic about it. The human body does not store fat in response to increasing pressure and muscular stress, its stores fat cause your lazy.

Some high school athletes seem to encounter a rush of pubescent strength at a young age. This might be genetic, or just the reality of stress, whether physical mental or emotional, which tells their body they better hurry the fuck up and grow up or they will be demolished. Don’t pretend our culture doesn’t influence how we develop, it may not be in a bio textbook yet but it will one day.

Case in point, some african tribes send their sons off to be men at 11 or 12. This does not mean that they are any different, biologically, than an american who still lives at home. But the african boy will be forced to grow up physically and mentally in a much rougher environment than the american, who may not display such signs of maturity until several years later. Its a shame so many people idly choose to waste their genes
