Gear!

Figured there’s a bunch out there, seems like most is crap.

Looked at straps today…

One was leather, yellow… F-that…

One was like 1 1/2 wide canvas… 6 bucks

One had padded cuff w/ Velcro wrist… 25 bucks…

I heard about hooks…

Any thoughts?

You got me all excited, then I see this is about lifting straps…

j/k

basic canvas ones are good. Harbringer or whoever makes them. The best are the Spud straps, which are usually yellow canvas.

Or just let your grip strength grow.

Versa Gripps FTW!

Been using them for over a year, (deads, shrugs, and bent over rows) and couldn’t be happier. My grip has always lagged the weight I can lift but it’s not my grip that I am working, but the specific muscles. These let me work the muscles without worrying about the grip.

I always hated using straps, too clumsy, besides I am kind of dyslexic when it comes to wrapping a reverse grip.

I use the ones from Ironmind. I use them mainly for shrugs and my heaviest set on deadlifts. Had them for a couple of years now and they are still going strong.

I figured the title could be open to ANY type of gear, including PEDs…

Sorry to hijack your new thread Null, but…You’ve been awol awhile ironman, what’s up?

Hijack away…

I will get the cheap straps. Plan on only using them after grip gives out.

Hoping others will talk about whatever “gear” they like.
My employment will keep me away from the chemical gear.

Bands are looking interesting…
Need to figure out way to assist on pull ups while at home.
Shoulder dislocates / subluxes too easily. I have to work up to them after it feels healed… Need to take 100-150+ lbs off…

Working a lot of seven day weeks and extra hours because of plant relocation. I’ve probably had a total of two weeks off since Memorial Day. My workouts have gone to crap and I really haven’t felt like posting them because of the inconsistency of them.

Ironman, good to see you’re still breathing. Hope you’re able to start posting again soon.

Mike, I don’t use wrist straps. They’re for girly men.

Some people say “Don’t lift any weight you can’t grip.”
Other people say “Don’t let your grip hold back strength gains.”

I’m with the “other people.”
I use canvas straps. Right now I’m using my new hot pink ones from APTPro, because being girly is cool.

Sorry Yo Momma. Being girly is cool. But does he have to buy the pink straps??

I’m in the ‘don’t lift it if you can’t grip it’ group.

Oh Ecogenx, I have no pride, some of the toughest people I know were women.
When I was at school in Buffalo, there was this girl who carried ME home…

Personally, I think respecting the weakest link in compound lifts prevent injury.
But, If I drop what I’m lifting at PF. I’ll get tossed for sure and grip is limiting deads.
I can hold 405, but grip fails at 425.
Same thing with shrugs… Can’t seem to get the weight/reps traps need with the 65 pounders.

Ideas on Golfer’s/Tennis elbow?
I use straps from CVS, but I have trouble getting them tight enough…

Only if he wants to.
The men’s pink is called “raspberry.”

Repping heavy deads makes my grip give way, so it’s finish with straps or don’t finish at all.
Besides, lots of gripwork makes my fretting hand go wonky.

I have to disagree with the “Don’t lift if you can’t grip” view. Why rob yourself of the stimulation of heavier weights simply because your hands aren’t strong enough right now? Use those straps and work the grip separately until you don’t have to do either.

Yo Momma - do you find you have to retrain fretting when your grip gets stronger?

I’m developing a little osteoarthritis in the fingers of my left hand, and working my grip leaves them feeling stiff for a day or so afterward. What I gain in strength, I lose in speed and flexibility on the fretboard. Not really a big deal, since I play bass, and I use steel flat-wound strings. So, all you really need to slap pop are big hands and strong fingers.

I’m in the ‘don’t lift it if you can’t grip it’ group.[/quote]

x2. Chalk is a lifter’s best friend

I guess we’ll just have to disagree.

I agree.

I’m very agreeable.

A good grip is as important as any other lift. I just feel people run to straps to quickly. Do kroc rows for a month and see whats happens.

I agree with that, too.
