$4 a gallon and you’re complaining?
That’s 55 p a litre
We pay 1.35 sterling round here (about $2 and change) a LITRE so roughly $10 a gallon. Where my ex lives in the Outer Hebrides it’s 11$ a gallon. But then again our cars are a lot smaller and fuel efficient so swings and roundabouts.
Well remember that we have been spoiled with LOW gas prices for awhile. It wasnt long ago that we were bitching about gas reaching $2.
WAIT. There was a point within the last four decades where you could buy the equivalent of 5 litres petrol for what would translate to roughly 1pound20?
MOTHER OF GOD.

I’m 23 now, I can remember when I was probably 10-12 and gas was 96 cents a gallon.
If gas is 8 dollars a gallon over there, then how do Europeans get by? If I paid that I’d be screwed. Especially with the increase to food costs that would come about from that increase. Does the average European just drive less or get paid more?
That would certainly help. I live in the center of the Eagle Shale operation down here in South Texas. When they come across natural gas, they just burn it up due to the lack of containment. There just isnt alot of attention toward it at the meantime. Im sure there is a reason but I wouldnt know.
The attractiveness of the Eagleford right now is that they have a damn big liquids window. The rate of return on a gas well now days sucks.
Some cities are getting the right idea and switching over their public transit to natural gas. It wouldn’t be too hard to do on a public level either. The majority of homes in the US have NG running to them already. Power plans are going to make the switch from coal to NG pretty soon too.

Back when I first got my license, in the summer of 1998 I remember filling up once for 82 cents a gallon. Used to fill my truck for under $20. I guess that’d be around 21 cents/liter. The good ol’ days.
I remember both cheap gas prices and having to wait in line for gas (we had odd and even days based on the last digit of your plate) here in California. So we’re paying more but at least we aren’t having to wait in line on top of all that.
Europeans have themselves to blame for their high gas prices as it’s mostly the result of taxes. It seems you guys are all pretty cool with the taxation and high gas prices were we all drive big vehicles so tend to really get pissed off when gas prices are high.

Yes, European gas prices are extortionate (thank your governments for that) but I assume that in Europe you have a much better selection of diesel vehicles, like mid-size trucks that get near 30 mpg.
Free med school. And I even get paid to study. Can’t complain.
Bwahahaha, just checked BMWs American website. The cars they sell in Sweden are twice as efficient. All you have are gay Priuses. Show some demand and I’m sure you’ll get a good selection too.

Give it sometime and we will be saying “I remember filling up once for $5.00 a gallon. The good ol’ days.”

they don’t typically have to drive as much/far as we do, i believe
Actually, I didn’t want to sound like a lunatic, but I have it directly from the horses mouth that natural gas prices are being held low for exactly this reason.
Once the market has expanded for it though the cost per ccf we pay is going to go through the roof.
We pay $1.13+/- a few cents or so for 87 octane in Alberta. I wish the gov’t wasn’t a bunch of pussies and would look into refining our own product, instead of farming it out. We don’t have the capital to do it, is a bullshit excuse as far as I’m concerned.
We have the second largest oil reserve in the world. We might have a huge country, but if we didn’t cow-tow to the states all the fucking time maybe we’d be able to make a fucking buck or two. If I were Prime Minister I’d tell the states to go fuck themselves every once in a while. Love you guys, but you need to get fucked on a few occasions.
On another note. We just drove to a job in Southern BC from Edmonton. 900 kms and as far as I’m concerned that isn’t really that far. The wife and I just visited my cousin on Vancouver Island, we drove a total of 3200 kms, or so. All you in Europe, where could you go in 3200 kms? We spent a fuck load on gas. It was the major expense of our trip. The best I could get out of out Outlander was 9.8-10.5L/100 kms. There is better technology out there, for North Americans. We need real change in the way we fuel out lives. It’s coming to the point where we have to tell the gov’t that they’re fucking with our lives and it’s unnecessary. We have to stop being content with the bullshit out gov’ts are feeding us. When we stop bitching about gas prices and tell the gov’ts to get fucked, more will change than just gas prices. Quite eating your ding dongs, and ho-hoes, and shove more pies in corrupt officials faces. I haven’t seen much change in the price of anything since the “World Economic Crisis” in 2008. We are letting them fuck us in the ass with no lube when there are more of us than there are of them. Fuck them, fuck them in their lie-ing asshole, with no lube.

Like i said gas (we just call it petrol) prices are high in India as well.
And it hurts the people here more as we aren’t as well off (in general) than the developed nations.
But over the past few years a lot of focus has gone to developing more fuel efficient cars.
For example, the diesel cars from 12-20000 dollars have a minimum fuel efficiency of 20 kms per litre or almost 45-50 miles per gallon.
That definitely makes things more economical overall.
The low taxes in United States have resulted in inefficient engines and thus poor mileage. So ultimately, the overall cost despite higher prices in Europe or certain parts of Asia, comes out to be almost the same.
What’s the status on vehicles running completely on alternative sources of energy? I know 3 years ago that what was available was highly inefficient or not practical or too expensive or all three.
I just read about the newest Tesla cars going dead for stupid reasons.

Good post. Interesting how things work out. Never thought of high gas taxes as a good thing before.

Same as 100 years ago. You can use it to commute to work if you charge it over night but not much else. And they’re expensive. Few things develop this slowly.
Many diesel cars can run on rapeseed oil though, which (with our taxes) is 30% cheaper than diesel. Completely renewable source of energy but it wouldn’t work if everyone did it.
Come on guys it’s not so bad higher gas prices mean less obeisity because you know people will walk and ride their bike more, and you know not because food is getting so freaking expensive they can’t afford to eat

thats going to suck for anyone that drives a supercharged car that requires premium gas. luckily its only a summer car. but still.
