Gas Price Humor

Something funny happened to me yesterday and I thought that I would share it with you all. One of our admin specialists was ??bragging?? about such a good deal that she and her husband got their new vehicle. She went on and on about how her husband was such a good negotiator. So I decided to join in the conversation, and what is the first question a testosterone guy would ask?

What was the make of your new vehicle? She replied with a big grin ??a Chevy Tahoe??. So I countered with, ??I thought that you only have one child??. She shook her head yes and continued cackling on. I excused myself so as not to laugh in her face. It seems to me like she should have known that they are practically giving them gas guzzlers away.

Did she get the hybrid version?

Tahoe made its hybrid electric debut in fall, 2007.

They are giving that stuff away and closing the plants that build them.

The hybrid version only gets 20 mpg. The regular 4x4 is 11-14 mpg.

Forgot to mention that. No it was not a hybrid. I could not hold a straight face so I left quickly

If you can afford the vehicle, you can afford the gas. Don’t hear many Ferrari owners complaining about gas prices.

Pfff my boss has a Carrera 4s (we’re a small company), but he was moaning about the £2500 charge he had last week on some things - and get this - was upset the Porsche wouldn’t repair his tyre and instead could only offer a him a new one.

Their reasoning is they don’t fix tyres because the cars are meant to be driven at 180mph.

We just tell him, “Yeah, it’s tough at the top, isn’t it?”.

We are talking about a Tahoe, not a ferrari. There are a lot more people out there buying a Tahoe and bearly getting by, than there are FERRARI owners who buy one and scrape their pennys together to make monthly payments.

This is just a little forum humor, don’t over think my intentions…

Ferrari owners bitch about maga service costs.

OP, at what point do you think the husband will go from the status of ‘good negotiator’ to complete idiot in his wife’s view?

$5/gal, $6/gal, $7/gal?

Conclusion: Woman’s mind is such a ficle thing.

Good point. When the prices raise to $7/gal I will then ask her to recount the negotiation and buying experience. Should be interesting because she should have filled up her vehicle a few times by then. LOL

She probably enjoys the status, didn’t help pay for any of the vehicle, probably isn’t paying for insurance, and isn’t paying the gas bill either. Maybe the man himself will feel like an idiot soon without her help.

Or maybe he has a total, round trip distance to and from work of under 8 miles, like me, and the price of gas doesn’t affect him much.

When it comes time to replace my current truck, I know I will be getting another truck or SUV. And I’m just a single guy with no family.

The funny thing for me is that I can afford, and have thought about buying a new GMC or Chevy truck simply because I like them and they have great financing options that become available.

But really, I have remained smart enough to keep driving my old piece of shit 1990 Honda and laugh at all the suckers driving brand new rides. Although I won’t be getting any chicks because of my car, I will continue to have money in the bank!

You could always just get one of those stickers “Don’t laugh, my other ride is your wife”

Those Tahoe’s are really nice. We have a 2003 Suburban that gets 17mpg going down hill with a stiff breeze at your back.

It sits in the driveway now. We went out and bought a 2003 Lexus from our friends who were trading up. $4/gallon doesn’t hurt so bad when you buy half as much gas as we used to.

I have a friend that used to drive an old 1985 Civic hatchback that got about 65 mpg. It was still running well with over 200,000 miles on the odometer when he sold it. They just don’t build them like that anymore. I don’t think the Prius will even do that. Once Honda upped the engine displacements and put all those steel side panels in they were left with half the original mpg from the old models.

you have no idea what your talking about.

First, i am really tired of hearing all these stories about people with mid 80’s civics and geo’s that got 60+ mpg. there is no way your friend got 65 mpg from ANY civic EVER. he either lied, exaggerated, or didn’t know how to check gas millage (i’m amazed at how many people honestly don’t know how to do this).

Second, it is nothing for ANY civic (and a lot of other cars too) to run well for over 200,000 miles. Hell, some companies are giving 200,000 mile warranties now-a-days.

Third, current honda civics (the base models) still get 35-40 mpg on the highway (i get 37-38 mpg out of my 2000 civic doing mostly city driving at the moment). that is hardly “half” of what they used too…

the point is that the cars built today, on average, are of MUCH higher quality and get MUCH better fuel economy then the cars built during the 80’s. to suggest otherwise is absurd. I’ve owned everything from a 93 geo metro that got 45 mpg highway to a 550 hp 99 firebird that got 12-15 city… i currently own a 2000 civic, and i wouldn’t trade it for a mid 80’s civic or another geo if you paid me.

Ah Gas prices. A couple spots down in Malibu have already breeched $5 for 87.
