Where the hell are you buying iced tea for $9.52 a gallon? Christ, you can go into a restaurant and order iced tea (with free refills) for under $2.00. I buy the large bags and brew my own iced tea… it costs something like 20 cents a bag, and the tap water is basically free. If you wanted to use distilled water, instead, then the total cost per gallon would go up to $1.20.
This has been on the internet all over the place…It was probably started by an oil company to try to make us feel better about the high price of gas. It doesn’t work though does it?
Isn’t inkjet printer ink supposedly the most expensive liquid on earth? Something like $5000 a gallon if memory serves.
Do an analysis of Starbucks coffee, that should be close!
The difference between all those things you listed and gas is… I have to use gas in order to get to work, I can choose to not buy any of those listed items and still provide for my family.
You’re comparing apples and oranges. If someone spends an average of $35 on gas, how much Gatorade or tea would they consume in a week? No where close to $35, I would think. If you were forced to spend that amount on Gatorade per week, I’m sure alot more people would complain.

Nobody forces me to buy gas. I have structured my life so that it very hard to do without, but that too, is my choosing. Before you flame me, I’ll agree it’s splitting hairs, but I think it’s an important point to keep in mind.

Yeah your right, no one forces me to breathe either but I still want clean air… I could always just quit my job and go on welfare like the folks next to me, I doubt the gas prices bother them while they are sitting around the pool or watching the big screen tv…
I think fvital is just trying to make the point that in relation to these other products (which despite their usual ubiquity in stores everywhere)gas is still fairly affordable in comparison to other consumer products… damn here in Toronto we’re now up to $1.20+ for regular gas…
Anyhow, the other items (with the exception of brake fluid)seem to be relative luxuries while gas is a definite necessity if you need to get anywhere.

That’s a non-choice, sort of like someone pointing a gun at you and saying “Your money or your life.” Saying that it comes down to personal decisions is pure BS in that case, just as it is for the majority of employees.

I can’t put ice-tea in my gas tank. So I don’t see how this helps with the sting.

If you use a car, they do.

I think you missed my point. Bike to work, tele-commute, mass transit, move to within walking distance from your job. Nobody forces me to drive a car either.

Americans complaining about the price of gas. Oh the irony…

I see your point and it is a valid one, I’d love to live within biking distance. My wife and I both have about a 20 mile drive and it is in opposite directions. Around here jobs are not around the corner. Ultimately your right it is our choice to drive a car, but we really don’t have that choice at the end of the day.
