I built a gym in my garage recently and I’m putting out a call for lifters in the Northern Virginia/Maryland DC suburbs that might be interested in ‘joining’. I currently have 1 person training with me, and would be looking to add up to 3 more.
Since it’s a garage gym it is obviously not packed with a bunch of cables, machines, etc.; however, it does have plenty of the shit that you need to make you strong. The gym is outfitted with an EFS 2x2 rack & bench, Texas squat, power and DL bars, a couple of KBs, 6 pairs of 5/8" chains, 2 full sets of bands, blast straps and other miscellaneous accessories, and of course plenty of weight (will be adding more 45s in the near future).
For anyone interested, I just ask that you are serious about competing in PLing meets. There is nothing wrong with training to train, but I am looking to add a competitive element. Also, no biases in regard to the use of PL equipment.
My training partner is a raw lifter while I compete in multi-ply gear, so the two can get along. Thus, if you are the biggest equipment whore, you’re welcome to join. At the same time, if squat suits and bench shirts are not your cup of tea, you’re also welcome to join. Either way, I’m just looking for good guys (or gals) ready to put in some hard work.
I might be interested depending on where you are at. I’m sick of WSC, but I don’t like traveling very far out of my neighborhood.
I’m not ready for competition at this point, but I may do it in the future when I get my squat better.
Right now I’m working on a 300 bench and my last heavy DL day I pulled 515 once. My squat is too embarrassing to post and what I need the most work with.
PM me with any specifics. I live in between GU and AU, not far from Arlington.

You’re lifting more then I am and I’m competing in a couple months. If you want to compete then you may as well start now.

I’m not totally against it, but let’s just say I may actually bench more than I squat. I don’t know for sure but the fact that they are that close really hurts me!
Anyway, I don’t know anyone around here that competes so maybe with some more exposure to it I’ll be more psyched for it.
I got hooked in with Matt Gary and Sioux-z at Rockville fitness and they are helping me a lot. Sioux-z is actually competing at Nationals in Aruba this week and Matt is coaching the mens team. They are always willing to help out somebody serious about the sport.
Tim Henriques started a power lifting team and he trains out of Fitness First in Tysons. He posts articles on here so you can contact him that way.

Yep, Centreville, VA. I only get to check the web at nights (workplace web restrictions) so those who might have an interest in entering the fray, drop me a PM.
Maybe… that’s about an hour south east of me, but I might be able to make it… as it is though, I’m traveling out to Reston for event training once a week. Have to figure out if I can afford another 2 hour drive each week.
I thought I’d give this another bump. Still looking for some lifters in the Northern Virginia Area. See the first post in the thread for a description of what I have available. There has to be somebody in the area trying to escape commercial gym hell.
I’m still looking for anyone who might be interested in training in my small, but growing, powerlifting gym. Any interested lifters (raw or equipped) can send me a PM.
