I wanted to let everyone know that my workout partner and I are starting a powerlifting team in 2008. Our first meeting is going to be on Saturday, January 5th at 1:30 pm at the Tyson’s Fitness First in Northern VA. You do not have to be a member of that gym to come to the meeting.
I have wanted to set up a powerlifting team for a long time and thought there is no time like the present to do it. I have several purposes in forming the team:
I want to help educate lifters and lay people alike about the sport of powerlifting and help promote it.
I want to help lifters achieve their fitness goals.
And I want to help lifters find good, likeminded workout and training partners.
We will be called Team Force. Both men and women of any ages are encouraged to contact me to get more info. You don’t have to be super strong, just willing to help others and work hard. If you need any more info feel free to PM me or email me at NPTITim@aol.com. If you know anybody in the area whom might be interested feel free to pass this info along, we are in Northern VA so we can cater to VA, WV, DC and MD. Team Force will support all forms of powerlifting, but my main goal is to promote raw, drug free powerlifting.
Sounds like a good idea. Just got done with the MD state championships on sat. and a bunch of us were lamenting at how there wasn’t a cohesive group around here, lot of powerlifters, but everyone is just spread out around the area doing there own thing. would be nice to have a regular group together in the area. ill pm you my personal info and I’ll definitely make a point of being there on the 5th.
AH crap! Lol now you set up one! I’m from Oakton and would have loved to join!
P.S.
The state record holder in bench press trains at Gold’s in Herndon, maybe you can get him to join? Well at least he had the record 2 years ago when I lived there.

I don’t know who you are referring to but feel free to pass this info along to him or anyone else you think might be interested. Hopefully we still be up and running when you come back to the area.

Would love to have you, feel free to pass this info along to any other PLers you know in the area.
How did the MD States go? I know VA had their state championships the same weekend, and the Christmas Classic is this weekend which I will be attending.

Where do you train at robo?
I know it sounds lame, but NOVA is actually too far for me to get to on a consistent basis because of grad school and the fact that I work full time waaaaay the hell out on 270 near exit 8.
Just to be clear, I am not expecting members of the team to train at a particular gym, we will just have meetings there every couple of months. Team members can train wherever they want, hopefully some people can hook up with others in a similar location and then workout together wherever it suits them.

pretty good meet. I think there were about 60 lifters there and a ton of family and friends watching. The venue was a bit cramped but they had top notch equipment, national level judges, good spotters, and hot food, so can’t complain too much. A lot of good lifters came out including one guy who just barely missed breaking the usapl American deadlift record.

Beebuddy, I live in dc and train mostly in my basement, my two main training partners live out in NoVA, but we have been meeting every Sunday afternoon for bench at golds gym SW next to the design center and Friday nights for squats at my house on the hill. There are 3 other guys that come from time to time so if we’re lucky we can get as many as 5 people at any one time. We all just got done doing a meet last weekend so we probably won’t be hooking up again until after the holidays, but you are more than welcome to join us once we get going again to prepare for our next meets in march and april. We’re always looking for more people to help with spotting, loading, gear, etc. doesn’t matter how much you lift, what fed you like, or whether you do raw or geared – as long as you train hard is all that matters. if you’re interested, PM me your email and I’ll let you know the next time we gather.
Just wanted to remind anybody/everybody that we are still meeting at Tyson’s Fitness First at 1:30 this Saturday (the 5th) so if you are interested in PL come on out and check it out. Take it easy,
Tim
